Brilliant game - easier than earlier Mario Karts thus far but I haven't played it on 100 or 150CC yet.

"Brilliant game - easier than earlier Mario Karts thus far but I haven't played it on 100 or 150CC yet."

That's what I worry about. Some of the criticisms floating around about it is that it is too easy. Even easier then Mario Kart 64.

I remember playing Mario Kart 64 and I breezed through it without any real effort. I'm afraid that if what you say is true than this game just won't be enjoyable for very long.

Don't get me wrong. I loved Mario Kart 64. It was every thing that I dreamed it would be. It's just that the only thing that kept me playing the game was the multiplayer even though the levels were a bit simple. Now that I'm a bit older, I guess I want more of a challenge.

And looking at the design of the multiplayer levels I see that it hasn't advanced since Mario Kart 64. In fact I'm pretty sure that it has deevolved since then if that's even possible.

I mean, take a look at this one:
http://media.cube.ign.com/media/016/16574/img_1870500.html
Please tell me that there are more advanced multiplayer levels than this. Please.

Excellent game. Got the gamecube + mario kart bundle on friday, couldn't resist after seeing it in action on tv. I really liked the original but not so much the N64 version. It is easy enough, I've beaten most of the cups in 2 days but it's a lot of fun and it's a multiplayer game that I can see myself playing for a long time to come. I do kinda miss the ability to jump into powerslides and for avoiding stuff but it's not a major thing.

I miss powerslides too and I was kinda hoping that they would do something more with them this time. Maybe dodge redshells or make some interesting level designs that utilize it.

By the way, can you tell me how complex the multiplayer levels are? I'm hoping they're more complex than the one I posted about above. Or at the very least their simplicity doesn't get in the way of a good multiplayer battle.

@Pincho

"Is multiplayer online or doesn't gamecube use online gaming?"

It has the capacity for online gaming and lan gaming. At the moment there is only one online game. I think its called fantasy star online or something like that. As for the lan games, that would be Mario Kart: Double Dash and some Kirby racing game I forgot the name of. There might be others but I doubt it.

@Cookyzue - i got it at game

btw, i have mastered the L+R steering, im lovin it to bits.

I love the multiplayerness of the game, apparently you can link the game up with another gamecube and another tv to have an 8 player game...wow

Only a couple of days ago my bro had a party and we all set up a couple of tournaments

Smash brothers tournament - 1 win to me (falcon rules)
F-zero tournament - brother
Double dash - one of his m8s, but we have only had it for a couple of days lol

Yeah I got Double Dash with the Gamecube today! It's really easy though, but that is good because my daughter is only 12. The gameworld is very imaginative, especially the ship. The animation is fun too. After using a PS1 for so many years the graphic quality of the Gamecube is amazing. Oh yeah, and I got 4 Zelda games free too! Plus a demo of Windwalker. Windwalker looks very nice too.

GBA version is pretty much the best as far as I'm concerned. Apart from maybe the original SNES (but only because it came out first). But GBA is pretty much the same, just better.

GC version looks cool though, might get it.

$80? I assume thats Canadian dollars?

But beat this. I bought an N64 on the day of release. Cost me, if I remember rightly, £300 (work that out). I also bought Mario 64, for about £50, and Turok at the same time, at... wait for it... £69.99. Just found it again the other day when I was cleaning stuff up and chucking rubbish on the top of my bookcases. Still has the price tag on it. And it was such a rubbish game too. Remember the mist? And the chucking a granade around a corner (ala Quake), knowing there is a monster there, then running around to get the convenient "beaming in" effort of the monster. ie. no forward planning, just run in and shoot. Rubbish. Nice Dinos though.

Cheers

Congrats on your gc purchase!

"Remember the mist?"

Oh yes. The mist. ::eyes glaze over as he gets nostalgic::

Do you remember how massive the levels were too? I could never get past the second level because it was so huge I'd get lost and eventually just give up. I was lucky to get past the first one but that was because it was the shortest of the eight or so levels that were in that game.

"And the chucking a granade around a corner (ala Quake), knowing there is a monster there, then running around to get the convenient "beaming in" effort of the monster."

Don't remember doing that, though I did have the invincibilty cheat on a lot so I don't remember caring about tactics or, for that matter, my health.

"just run in and shoot."

I remember doing a lot of that though.

"Nice Dinos though."

Excellent Dinos. I still remember the first time I saw a raptor in that game.

It was the start of level two and all I had was a pistol in hand. I took a few steps forward toward the omnipresent mist. I could see what looked like a series of black pillars side by side marching into the mist. Was this the entrance to a temple? I advance a little further just coming even with the first pair of pillars when he appears.

Out of the mist comes a raptor. Tall as me and with a light brown skin he advances...straight toward me. He's quite a distance from me so thinking I have this one in the bag I pop a few rounds off at him. He keeps coming. Slightly worried, I start back peddling. He continues to advance, moving faster than me getting closer and closer.

I continue firing. By now, I'm sure that I'm hitting him. I have my cross hair cleanly leveled on him. He keeps coming. I start to sweat a little and I mutter under my breath, "drop you sucker drop." I keep muttering louder and louder as my phrase starts to turn into a desperate mantra, a plea that my wish will turn into reality. He keeps coming.

I'm running out of space to back peddle. I keep firing, frantically now never letting up on the trigger. Some of my shots go wild, but I can't tell. All I can see is the shape of his big ugly head. And that grin. That terrible ugly grin. I feel strange in the pit of my stomach. A feeling that I'm not accustomed to. What was it? Fear? My back hits a stone wall and I stop retreating. Yes, Fear.

With nowhere left to run, my last hope is this pitiful piece of metal in my hand. For a moment, I remember its power. No other animal in the world has the range or the force that this thing is capable of delivering. Then I look up, and realize it may as well be a water gun cause, baby, we ain't in Kansas anymore.

The raptor is almost on top of me. I can imagine his foul decaying breath wafting over me. I think to myself, what the hell, I've got nothing to lose. I move my crosshair right over his head. If I'm going die, he sure as hell ain't gonna walk away from this without a nasty headache. I pull the trigger. Once. Twice. He rears up, reading to attack me. Thrice.

He drops.

I exhale. I hadn't even realized I was holding my breath. I look down surveying my handy work. His corpse is but inches away from. I get this sudden rush of relief and pride as I watch him fade away into nothing.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the can of Whoopass has been dealt.

I simile creases across my face and I look up, ready to leave. It was at that moment that I realized that...

he had a friend...

Neophyte - Ummmm... ok... so I take it you slightly liked that rubbish game Turok, say, a little bit more than I did?

Rubbish Nintendo prices? Yep. Was in the good olde days when the UK seemed to think the public was stupid enough to think that dollars equalled the same amount in pounds. So if a console came out at $300 in america (and similar amount in Japan), then it would be £300 in the UK. Erm... thats over $500 dude.... is more like it these days mind.

Sigh. Although it didn't help when gadgetites like myself (at the time, not quite so bad now) bought the consoles at that price. We just tended to gibber a bit when (a few months later) the prices crashed to roughly half the original price.

Cheers
