Worth a punt. Back it if you really believe they'll build one. I pledged $10 for kicks

That's not seems legit - they has not wrote the SIZE. So they definetely will build melon-sized death star for $2000000000000000000. Of course it will shoot something. Green?

"The only risk is the power of the Force.

The main challenge is assuring Kickstarter that this is a joke and not a serious project. As proof, the goal has been set high enough to make successful funding almost impossible."

It even mentions this in the page.

Damn, I really should read the small print before pledging my money on KS...

My hopes are dashed. I still have the Lightsaber project to look forward to. If they reach their strecth goals I get a fully functional X-Wing!

I'm glad not all of these projects are fake

If they get to 20,000,000 do they get to keep that money? I don't see why not.

Kickstarter only takes your money away if the project is funded

I think we should start talking with signatures again!

I know but imagine if it actually got close to the $20M mark. I would be pulling out shortly before. I'm all for a laugh as much as the next person but I'm not letting someone keep my money and then what?? Maybe make a death star out of lego? They don't specify building materials or scale so I am imagining they would keep your money and make something almost as dumb as anyone willing to back it past the goal

It's gathering a lot of backers...

EDIT: My favourite quote from the main page.
Quote: "This project will only be funded if at least £20,000,000 is pledged by Monday Apr 1, 7:19am BST."

This must happen. I think the actual petition and response on petitions.whitehouse.gov was awesome.

Didn't they say it'd cost about $100 trillion dollars to build an actual death star?

That's inaccurate.

The original story was posted by centives, and they calculated that the steel alone would cost 852 quadrillion.

http://www.centives.net/S/2012/how-much-would-it-cost-to-build-the-death-star/

What about the cost of getting the material up there? Processing the material? Research? Design? Architecture? Life support? Weapons? What ever else the death star has?

If the death star is the size of our moon, think of all the metal they would need to use, the earth would end up collapsing in on it's self from all the mines xD

That's stupid idea (or joke). The better way is to turn Earth into Death Star. 2 things: engine and weapon.
Build in africa hiant laser, on the opposite side build engine. Fly'n'fry, mother Earth!

Or use the 3D printers to print a death star from the moon instead of printing a boring base there.

I'd love to see George Lucas pledge £19m just to troll the kickstarter people.

Up until another millionaire pledges the remainder, solely to annoy Lucas. I would do that if I were an eccentric millionaire.
