We got about 20-24 inches yesterday and overnight. The gov placed a driving ban on all roads, which is pretty unusual for Rhode Island. Maybe I'll get some coding done...... Nah!

I see you got the snow we wanted. Blasted Mother Nature getting the locations all screwed up again. How she does that I have no clue, considering you and I are on opposite coasts. May need to make a better map.

I can relate. 24+ inches this morning and it's still going strong. There isn't much to do here because of the driving ban so all I can do is sit here and wait. But once that ban goes away I'm heading straight to Hew Hampshire to shred the best snowstorm we've gotten in years

I took this picture last night when the sun was going down. There wasn't much snow yet, but pretty surreal

A few years back someone from work finally had to call in that he wouldn't be in. Snowed in. 6 feet overnight. He always said its not enough snow till you can measure it with a yard stick. Thats good old lake Erie and Buffalo for ya.
I'm glad I only got a few inches of snow from this new storm. They were calling for 6 to 12 inches of snow but only got 3 to 4 inches of snow. Sometimes I sure do miss living in Florida. Enjoy your snow!!!!

Pft! One time we got 6 feet here in Colorado, and that I'm aware of, no road bans! It's interesting how cities that normally don't get much or any snow react when they do; I remember one time when Florida was crippled by a centimeter of snow.

What gets me is how a general populace gets so proud of their discoveries and inventions when in fact they themselves had nothing to do with it. Unless you yourself are that genius then I see no reason to go blowing my trumpet, we all have our fair share of scum and serial killers too, not something to get mighty about....right?

Why does a guy posting about snow turn into this kind of us and them BS around here.....I am not American by the way but I do admire some of them just as I admire many from all over the world....now that's something to be proud of....individual achievement.....National pride is shallow and causes more fights between individuals than really necessary....heck....I once saw a plumber and an electrician come to blows over who had the more skilled job....meh!

To get back to the topic.

There are cities that are prepared and expect large snowfalls on a regular basis. When a city like London for example gets more than two inches it can cause chaos on the roads, because they are not prepared it doesn't make them sissies (I know this was said jokingly) there are areas of the world that come to the crunch because of a drought, its all relevant and there will always be someone to say "I think your soft cos we get it a lot worse" its what your used to, or not used to in this case.

Haha, as soon as I read Quik's first post, I knew it was going to be one of those US bashing threads.

It's kind of nice to see a few Americans defending themselves around here. The whole time I've been on this forum, Americans have just kind of taken the slack or joined in on a little stereotyping at their own expense.

Here lately though, I'd probably be lying if I said I didn't enjoy a little counter-stereotyping.

And Indicium, I can see where you're coming from, but surely you can't think what you quoted KeithC on was uncalled for? They were having a back-and-forth where Quik was the instigator of the whole thing while others piled in on the US-bash free for all, and you just picked the worst sounding quote from the guy who's defending his homeplace.

Uh...since we're talking about having driving banned for the storm, one would assume that I am making a correlation about the sheer number of drivers (ie., cars) in one single part of the Country (in this case a single city), versus the entirety of a Nation; and how dangerous that would be. Guess that one went over your head. The second part of your "message" has me wondering where the correlation to the actual conversation is.

I agree; unfortunately I see a large portion of the "my country is better than your country" statements on this forum over the years...targeting America and Americans in a derogatory way.

My statement had ZERO to do with "national pride". It was a statistical number meant to illustrate the need to shut down driving for the time being, in a place that is severely congested. Therefore saving lives, as well as the lives of those first responders who would have to save someone who ignored said orders.

Is that clear enough for you, or would you like me to draw you a graph and/or diagram?

The driving bans have nothing to do with fear of the snow, it's merely a safety measure. I don't care how well you think you can drive, with 2ft of snow your vehicle isn't getting far and will just cause a mess.

It's also to avoid 100 car pileups like Ohio just had last month in 3 different cities.

In all seriousness, that's a crazy amount of snow overnight, hope we get 20 inches overnight, I fancy a 3 day (or 4 or 5 day) weekend, maybe I can get on with some coding.

That's why I love this country. Some snow fell a while back on a Friday and my school was closed right after lunch which means we got to go home early and therefore meaning I didn't have to do French which I truly despise (Sorry Benjamin), which means epic win.

Sure just be a little self-effacing about it. Otherwise people will troll. That's why you always get disparaging comments about the US. There is always an American that needs to get over himself that will start throwing his weight around and give everybody a good laugh.

This is a once-a-year occurrence here in ol' Wisconsin. Though... we really haven't had snow much this year. The most so far has been 5 or 6 inches a few days ago. And today it's warm and rainy, so that snow is as good as gone.

One of my friends was talking about the snow back east the other day. I'm lucky I guess, California's climate is pretty tame. We're pretty lucky all around, no twisters, no big storms... just the occasional city-leveling earthquake

When I arrived in Virginia last february, locals told me it rarely snowed around there (richmond area). Said it was just south enough that most snow missed them. A few weeks later it snowed several inches and military snowball warfare broke out! I couldn't even take out my trash without getting hit by a snowball! But it was funny to see the folks from other parts of the country that have never seen snow before. They were so happy to play in snow it was like giving a chocolate cake to a 5yr old.
