I have tried .avi, .mov, and .mpg and none of these seem to work. I get an error message "Could not determine parameter type". I am following the example in the Hands On manual.

What am I doing wrong? Or what am I not doing?

REM *** Load video ***
LOAD ANIMATION “VideoTest.mov”, 1
REM *** Play video ***
PLAY ANIMATION 1
REM *** End program ***
WAIT KEY

Did you even read the book?

Read the next line down in the book below the line:

Quote: "LOAD ANIMATION "mv1.mpg",1"

In Book 2

That would depend on which book you are referring. My book does not have a "mv1.mpg" in the text. (The filename doesn't matter.) Nor does it say anything about the error message I am getting. That is why I am asking on the forum.

The file exists and it plays in other programs.

Quote: "I am following the example in the Hands On manual."

Then which Hands On manual are you referring to?

You appear to be using very strange characters for your quotation marks. I don't know what keyboard you're using, but it looks like DBP doesn't like them, that's why you're getting a "could not determine parameter type". Try this:

as comet said, those are strange characters. as you included the REM statements and all, it's apparent that you cut and pasted from the PDF file which will pull some strange text formatting into the IDE = trouble.

The type of font is not determined by the keyboard. The font is coming from DB Pro, I merely copied and pasted it. If the "look" of the quotes is a factor then that is a DB Pro bug.

I can't check out the quote theory until later this afternoon. I will let you guys know if that was the issue. If it is, then where did the weird quotes come from?

Thanks.

I still need to check this out with my video, but the quotes are definitely a problem. I got those from copy and pasting from the manual. That is bizarre that those quote marks are a different ASCII code.

Note to self: Don't copy and paste from the manual.

Yes. It was the weird quotes thingy.

I see now that the file name wasn't highlighted in green, but with the correct quotes it is highlighted.

The Hands On Dark Basic Pro manual(Alistair Stewart) has some font with alternate quotation marks. It just so happens that quotation mark has an actual ASCII code other than regular quotes and was able to be copied.
