It's nice and fast - better when used with Start8 though.

I still run 7 on my main desktop, but on my laptop, I run windows 8, it has some neat features and works realy well. The removal of the start menu is a bit anoying but you get used to it. I could go with both windows 7 or 8

Ya, it kinda sucks that they got rid of the start button, but you have all of these conners, SO MANY!

The start button exists, it's just some big fancy touch enable interface.

Personally, I am really happy with it. It was a punt, I thought I was going to hate it, but ended up enjoying it. I think it's one of those things that's like Marmite, you either love it or hate.

I hate Marmite, but I actually love Windows 8. I find myself navigating across it very quickly and easily, it's incredibly responsive, starts very quickly and I get along with the new interface just fine and in some ways, I get along with it better than the old interface.

Of course, I wouldn't say it's without fault. But there is a reason I've installed it on 3 PCs now.

I agree with seppu, it feels smoother than windows 7 and when you get used to the "new UI" it's pretty user friendly to (atleast if you have a touchscreen)

Same! Unless of course, it's on a tablet. For a laptop or PC though, it just doesn't do it :/

I'm on a windows 8 laptop right now, and basically, it's a bit faster and more streamlined the 7, but for what I do, the entire metro interface is 100% useless. I don't consider it necessary to 'upgrade' to Win8, but I can live with it.
I've attached a screenshot of my Start Screen just so you can see how much I use it

love it a lot only except for shut down and the gui. some things in there are very annoying to get to compared to all the windows I'd ever came across so far.

Love it and my advice yo everyone is to move on support for windows 7 ends in 2015.

I got it when it was on offer and don't regret it at all.

Use it with classic shell and its just like windows 7 with a few extras and more speed.

This gimmicky new start menue is atrocious but I guess I'll get used to it once they force me to switch.

I just hope that MS gets their act together for desktop and laptop users by the time they end Windows 7 support.

If not, I'll be having a nice date with the Linux installer.

I don't mind it, but perhaps only because its use permeates the bare minimum of my life - it exists on my (5 year old) gaming desktop and nowhere else.

I hate it. I'm having loads of trouble with application compatibility.

I have it on my netbook, that I also put a small SSD into.

Boots in under ten seconds from cold, everything opens and closes instantly, and the Metro UI is actually kinda nice.

Only thing that personally bugs me - I can hack the loss of a Start button, my program list is so lightweight that it's all on the Taskbar alongside a custom Shutdown button.

But yeah, the only thing I hate is the deliberate shafting of netbook users as far as Metro apps go. You need a 1024*768 minimum resolution, with MS knowing that netbooks often ship at 1024*600. It is possible to edit the registry, but this gives a squashed view of everything, and is horrible.

It's okay anyway, I can install everything I need through desktop. MS just cut their nose off to spite their face as far as actively denying me access to buying their apps.

A lot of MS's design choices so far as Metro apps go kind of baffle me - like how the split view doesn't support half-and-half, which seems like it would be the most productive view (word processor on one side, IE on the other?). I mean, I understand that apps may want to switch into a specialized/compacted view when shortened to 25% of the screen, but we've been dealing with resizable windows for a long time, so it isn't like it is impossible to handle a little variation.
