I'm posting this as a sort of indefinite "see you later" as saying "goodbye" is inappropriate on these forums because "nobody ever really leaves", as the saying goes.

I've been inactive for nearly a month because a lot has happened. To summarize it: I had a seizure about a month ago, got into a fight with a dog about a week and a half after that and recently got told I have to be out my aunt and uncle's house by the 25th of this month. I've also been busy with recovery, trying to organise a place to stay and trying to squeeze in some projects too. Yeah, the last few weeks have been pretty heavy.

I don't know where I'll be going when I move out but I doubt I'll have internet access. At this point my prospects are bleak and I've got no remaining friends or family to turn to in this city. All I can do is hope that after me spending two years of living out of a suitcase in wait, my emigration papers come through before the 25th and that my family are prepared to give me an extension until my flight leaves.

Anyway, I do not wish to ramble on about my problems too much (which is why I've omitted a lot and spent ages summarizing this post). I just wanted to make it official and all since I didn't want to be one of those people that randomly disappear for a year and then just come back as if nothing happened.
I'll be offline in the next few days. I'll still have my phone but my prepaid package isn't gonna last long because data is so expensive out here so I've gotta conserve it as much as possible. I don't know when I'll be back. It may be weeks or even months.

Well, it's been fun. Cheers everyone and here's to hoping I'll be back online soon

What country are you headed to? Over the last couple years I've basically had to start over from scratch because life kept taking dumps on me, so I know what you're dealing with can be very stressful. I've already gotten grey hair from it! All I can say is keep pushing forward buddy even if it seems there's no hope.

Thanks for letting us know dude.

I'm sad to hear about your situation, I hope things improve for you matey. It's unfair they've piled this on top of your recovery, but I guess it's something you have to deal with, because frankly, life can throw crap at you when you don't need it, but there is still some good in the world.

Whilst you still have internet access, I'm sure people will happily tolerate any rant or venting, it might help. *shrugs*

Either way you look at it, we'll still be here when you get back. Nobody leaves. Ever. Not even the dead. I died 3 years ago and yet I'm still here.

Sorry to hear that, fingers crossed for you, and I suspect I need to write a "I'll be back" post soon too...

If there is anything anybody here can do to help, maybe research for you, do ask

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I am trying to keep positive because I only have one way to go and that's forward. I gave up pretty much everything to get this far and have lost so much in the process that I guess there's no turning back anyway

Heading to the UK. To cut a long story short: There's an operation I need that I can't get in my country. I even have it organised with a surgeon (a friend of my mom's has a son who works in the medical field and knows the surgeon). There are many pragmatic reasons to rather be in the UK too as my country is a rat-hole.

Whereabouts in the UK? I totally think UK TGCers should meet for beers some time, like they used to.

Interestingly a guy I work with made the big move from SA to the UK and he doesn't seem to regret the move. Whilst, yes, the weather is very wet and can be cold and is prolly a big contrast to SA, but he and his wife seem to have settled in quite nicely. Though he didn't move for the same reasons, but I'm sure you won't hate it too much here. I wouldn't say we're without our own problems, though I'm sure you're more worried about getting to good health and standing on your own two feet.

I don't know what it's like over in SA, but from hearing from my SA colleague and having seen some of the stats it sounds like a haven for crime. If it's as bad as it sounds, well, we'll look like pansies by comparison.

Will be staying with some friends in Derbyshire <-- Dunno how that's spelled..
I'm not sure how long as I'll have to get my operation done and stuff before I even think about an apartment.

Few of the people I know who moved do. The thing they always moan about is the weather but I prefer winter. I love cold and rain.

Yeah, my country is pretty bad but it's something you grow up with. Just about everyone I know has been burgled, some more than once and I'd say 60% or more have been mugged or hijacked. Lots of hate and violence and desperation too -- and a severe lack of education. The murder and rape stats are shameful to ay the least. The government is entirely to blame but I won't go into that as it's not legal here

It's spelled right. I studied at the University of Derby and lived there for 3 years as a result, many of my friends live there and I tend to visit. Also, Baxslash is from Derby. I think Derbyshire is a nice part of the country, just a short journey to the Peak District as well, which is worth visiting in the summer. I plan on being fitter next time my friends invite me on another walk around the Peak District.

However, it is colder than where I currently live in the UK, but then it's further North. Perhaps that's good news for you. I'm more of a summer person, despite my Viking reputation (hey, there were Vikings as far as the middle east, so not all were snow hoarders).

In which case, you'll feel right at home. Of course, there is the risk with moving away to a foreign country is of course the issue of settling down and feeling at home. If the weather's the worst of their worries, then that's a positive thing I guess, I mean, we all moan about the weather here. It's earned us a national stereotype.

That's pretty much how my colleague has described it.
