It\'s been confirmed. Disney closed LucasArts..

Disney Statement:
Quote: "After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we've had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles."

Disney Statement 2:
Quote: "It is worth noting that we are looking for proven external partners who can help us provide video games to our fans. We still believe in the video game industry, we still will provide Star Wars games, we're just looking at different models rather than internal production... They're evaluating everything. There's always a possibility that it [Star Wars 1313] can still come out via licensing."

Was anyone else looking forward to 1313?

LucasArts has been around since at least the 80s.

So why close it down then?!

They don't want to actually produce and put money into a game. They just want to sell the license...well that's what I got from it.

Why would they need lucasarts when they've got Disney Interactive Studios which is perfectly capable of making decent games?

This is extremely irritating. I was so excited for Star Wars 1313. Seemed like such an awesome twist on the Star Wars world that we all know.

Words cannot describe my Greatness... But I'll give it a shot.

I am awesome....... Yeah, that works.

I'm mourning not only 1313, but First Assault too. And not just the games to come, the games of the past. LucasArts was 94.8% of my childhood gaming time.

Cheesehead for life.

Admittedly, they haven't put anything really good out in a long time. I thought with Lucidity they were starting to try different things, but that didn't fare too well.

It's like an old friend who was cool back in the day, but is now senile and tells the same stories. You're sad he's gone, and would prefer to remember him from the good old days.

RIP LucasArts. This painting I did last year suddenly feels more poignant...

I'll miss him.

This is how I feel about LucasArts. I loved their point and click adventures, but beyond that I can't say I was really interested in what they did. I still have and play their old adventure games.

I feel bad for all the people who lost their jobs, for now, but I'm hopeful they'll all find work elsewhere. Perhaps they can get together and kickstart something cool.

What! No more Monkey Island games? I loved those - even though one particular scene used to consistently defeat me for umpteen attempts in each one.

Doesn't TellTale have the rights to those now anyway?

That's a pretty nice and spot-on painting, greenlig!

At first I was upset that it was getting canned in favor of a licensing model, but then I found that LucasArts had licensed almost all of their really good titles out to other companies. Raven studios made the Jedi Knight games, Factor 5 made Rogue Squadron, Pandemic made the Battlefront games. The games that LucasArts made were games like The Force Unleashed, The Old Republic, Galaxies, and Republic Commando, of which only Republic Commando was any good. And that was 2005!

I can imagine there will still be plenty of Star Wars games in the future. Maybe even some of them good!

Not boring at all. I've been very busy elsewhere and will be for a while longer. I haven't forgotten your shadow shader problem (and have a similar problem to resolve myself).

Have you tried the orthographic camera idea that someone posted a while back? I haven't tried to apply that yet but I'm hoping it will solve some issues I'm having with shadows.

Why is there never enough time in the day to do everything?

I'll try, I remember that, but I am unsure if it is 100% failsafe in other ways...

Personally, I played dark forces Best star wars games!

I played it since I was about 6 and it gave me so much great nightmares xD The terminator dark forces, on the treadmills in the dark with those red eyes D: and you could shoot the Star Trek John Luke Bacard and his crew while they were in a shower(Easter Egg).

Also the mod "Bear Force II" for mount and blade warband Second favorite because im good at melee, so jedi fights are fun for me
