Great update today, talking about plans for RvR dungeon, with player traps, tower defense mechanics and player controled npc/bosses etc
As for the monthly subscription, it is a fair and valid concern, but from my personal view I really don't mind as long as the content is worth paying for.
A game can always shift to a free-to-play format, and with this thing still 2 years out this could change. However, I've always found a noticeable difference in quality between subscription based games and FTP games as well as the constant advertising spam FTP throws at you to get you to buy from their in game/online stores.
You will spend more on a single dinner out, or in going to a movie etc than for a monthly subscription and a game will give you far far more hours of entertainment value.

Most people I know including myself only have free time to devote to one "continous play" type game such as an mmo, If this game is good enough to focus on and play regularly, then keeping up multiple subscriptions isn't an issue, it's an easy choice to drop the one I'm putting aside as I won't have any time to play it anyway, and it's no trouble to resubscribe later if I change my mind.
Quote: "the comment about it being in a lower tier subscription than most MMORPGs is the biggest put off for me; why is should it be cheaper, is he already aware that it will not be as good?"
By this logic, free to play games must all be terrible

I prefer to judge a game content and gameplay, and whether or not I feel that the game is worth the asking price, not for its pricing structure compared to other games. If it's cheaper but still a great game, then that's just a bonus to the player, and I'll take it happily.
Quote: "After 10 hours of gameplay will I still be interested in playing this game? Will it be rich enough with gameplay, content and population to justify subscribing for more than one month?"
This unfortunately is too early to tell, but most of the backer tiers come with 1 or 2 months free subscriptions plus beta access, which should be more than enough time to decide if it's worth putting down money on further subscription time, and I never subscribe to a game for more than 1 month at a time any way, makes it easy to drop anything at any time for any reason.
Quote: "This has to become extremely special to convince enough people to want to subscribe continuously, and will it survive amongst an onslaught of new releases, new technologies and consoles coming out next year, I just cannot know.
"
This applies equally to any game currently in development, I think it has the potential to be that something special. Being slated for late 2 years out makes this a bit of a non-issue though, it won't be competing head to head against the release hype of new consoles.
My intention is not to defend them here, there are definitely a lot of issues to be reserved about. but this is my self reasoning behind giving my interest and support
