Haven't really seen any postings about this around much so here goes...

Yes, It's an mmo BUT it's got it's roots in Dark Age of Camelot. I still use my Lurikeen Nightshade as my avatar a decade later, so this looks really interesting.

3 faction RvR is back! such a fantastic dynamic there was nothing like fighting it out in a bloody back and forth with some enemies only to have a new group of different enemies sweep in and start on you both. Alliances form, sides change out of no where, it provides the kind of organic gameplay events that you just can't plan or script.

The UI will be web based utilizing integrated html/css/javascript, be fully moddable and accessable both in game and on the web. Some really neat possibilities here http://camelotunchained.com/en/making-a-game-out-of-the-web/

Development looks to still be in -very- early stages with deadlines a long way out, but I've pledged and definitely will be following it.

I hope this gets completed; I feel that this will get funded.

I personally could not kick start this but can see that they have what it takes to build this thing; however I am not convinced about the business model or any unique selling point.

Pay-per-month MMO's are easier to build than they are to sell; this is very bold move and somewhat crazy. Large companies, EG: 100+ employees are steering clear of this market, and this small group expect to get subscriptions?

How many pay per month games is an individual going to subscribe to; and how many will unsubscribe inorder to play this?

After 10 hours of gameplay will I still be interested in playing this game? Will it be rich enough with gameplay, content and population to justify subscribing for more than one month? Will it become good enough to generate enough montly earnings to cover thousands of £/$ required for staffing, content production and marketing? I just do not know.

MMO's in the pay-per-month model are like the Dot Com boom; for a couple of years it all seemed to be the big thing, but then it became too good to be true to the point of many companies shutting down.

In the case of MMO'S many of them have to rely on free to play models now, people realise that they don't need to be subscribing to these games to enjoy themselves. How much will it cost to run this thing, and after being kick started will these kick starters also want to pay subscriptions? Even if reduced, will they get enoug subscriptions from outside the KS masses?

WoW team took advantage of peoples idea that Open World multiplayer is the next big thing and used their sheer power and experience to thrive. Now things have changed, it is more difficult than ever to sell an MMO, although this doesn't mean that there is no market for it.

There are too many good games out there to choose from costing nothing through $1, 50p, $9.99, £5.99 to $60 / £35. This has to become extremely special to convince enough people to want to subscribe continuously, and will it survive amongst an onslaught of new releases, new technologies and consoles coming out next year, I just cannot know.

The idea looks good. realm vs realm seems like a fun mechanic and the devs are obviously really smart; but the comment about it being in a lower tier subscription than most MMORPGs is the biggest put off for me; why is should it be cheaper, is he already aware that it will not be as good? Price dropping is a no-no for a new release regardless. They've already dropped the price for Kick Starters, that leaves even less money for maintenance and content production.

Great update today, talking about plans for RvR dungeon, with player traps, tower defense mechanics and player controled npc/bosses etc

As for the monthly subscription, it is a fair and valid concern, but from my personal view I really don't mind as long as the content is worth paying for.

A game can always shift to a free-to-play format, and with this thing still 2 years out this could change. However, I've always found a noticeable difference in quality between subscription based games and FTP games as well as the constant advertising spam FTP throws at you to get you to buy from their in game/online stores.

You will spend more on a single dinner out, or in going to a movie etc than for a monthly subscription and a game will give you far far more hours of entertainment value.

Quote: "How many pay per month games is an individual going to subscribe to; and how many will unsubscribe inorder to play this? "

Most people I know including myself only have free time to devote to one "continous play" type game such as an mmo, If this game is good enough to focus on and play regularly, then keeping up multiple subscriptions isn't an issue, it's an easy choice to drop the one I'm putting aside as I won't have any time to play it anyway, and it's no trouble to resubscribe later if I change my mind.

Quote: "the comment about it being in a lower tier subscription than most MMORPGs is the biggest put off for me; why is should it be cheaper, is he already aware that it will not be as good?"

By this logic, free to play games must all be terrible I prefer to judge a game content and gameplay, and whether or not I feel that the game is worth the asking price, not for its pricing structure compared to other games. If it's cheaper but still a great game, then that's just a bonus to the player, and I'll take it happily.

This unfortunately is too early to tell, but most of the backer tiers come with 1 or 2 months free subscriptions plus beta access, which should be more than enough time to decide if it's worth putting down money on further subscription time, and I never subscribe to a game for more than 1 month at a time any way, makes it easy to drop anything at any time for any reason.

This applies equally to any game currently in development, I think it has the potential to be that something special. Being slated for late 2 years out makes this a bit of a non-issue though, it won't be competing head to head against the release hype of new consoles.

My intention is not to defend them here, there are definitely a lot of issues to be reserved about. but this is my self reasoning behind giving my interest and support

Yeah I see you points; I still think they will get it funded, I who knows maybe a real unique selling point will come later in development.

They did a server tech stress test on livestream today and invited some of the backer community to join in, I was one of them

http://www.twitch.tv/citystategames/b/393475027

It was a lot of fun even if it was just to see how the server handled the numbers

--> there I am at 2:02-2:03 ha!

More to the point update 22 gives some good details on building and construction. 3 basic methods: pre-fab components built and then transported to site, free form on site using modular spacing 'cells', and from blueprints on site which is a saved free form configuration for rebuilding/building somewhere else.

and some more good info on it in this article:

Also, tomorrow will be a lengthy livestream with concept artist
