Yeah, I think I spend way too much time playing video games...

I think it can be addictive, so to speak. On my 'bad' times (a day out of every couple weeks) I'll spend way too long gaming, or just idly not doing anything and wishing I was no matter how hard I try to concentrate on something else. Thusly I've been slowly cutting back lately .

Pfff, lightwieghts. Back in my day I would play video games for at least 4 hours a day. The day I bought Zelda OOT I played 13 hours straight, then I took a bathroom break, ate some dinner, and went back to play another 6 hours. I beat Vice City in two days due to the amount I played in those two days. Now I have a full time job, I barely have time anymore, and there in lies the proof video games aren't adictive.

Now I'm down to half an hour a day on days, due to lack of time and interest (need to get enough modivation to beat the remaning 50 games I haven't beat yet). But in the rather sudden time when I when from 4 hour to half an hour I never had withdrawal. That proves it's not addictive, however I got a theory on adition to non corprael things, but I gotta go, I'm gonna be late for my D&D games.

Later

But then you are going to be addicted to un-rolling it and repeatedly licking it instead of playing it.

I've played computer games for 24 hours with breaks for a cup of tea. Sonic the Hedghog was one of these, and I'd already completed it twice! Me and my mates used to play Pinball Illusions, swapping seats by the computer for 24 hours. Played Cannon Fodder all night. Played Jimmy White's snooker all night. Those were the days!

Yes, quite. May I suggest:

Pendragon (The Series By D.J. MacHale if you dont know)
Harry Potter (The Series)
The Lord of the Flies
The Giver

And Here is My Schedule:

5:00 AM - Wake up to my Stereo alarm. Hit the front of my stereo until it stops blaring random songs on the radio.

6:00 AM - Get woken up by my dad, who says I only got 30 minutes left to get ready for school (I can get ready in 5, plenty of leftover time for doing missed homework or browsing the forum). Get my cup of coffee and try to wake up while browsing the forums.

6:30 AM - Get on the Bus

7:20 AM - Arrive at school, wonder why the hell i put up with the people on my bus.

7:45 AM - First period, Gym/Health and Band. Bored to death in less then 45 minutes.

9:20 AM - Second Period, Informational Processing. Get done with work in less then 30 minutes to allow for an hour of browsing the forums.

11:00 AM - Third Period, World Cultures. Finish the "At the Bell" in 5 minutes compared to the rest, which takes them 45 mintes to do (25 before lunch and 20 afterword).

11:25 AM - Lunch, hungry as hell, get some pizza and cookies and start ranting about my projects and how school sucks with my friends.

12:00 PM - Back to 3rd period for the last hour. Wait for others to finish the ATB and then review it for the rest of the period (or take notes if they've actually worked quickly).

1:00 PM - Fourth (and last) Period, English class. Silent Reading/Outline Writing/Paragraph writing for the first 15 minutes, then we start reading and watching plays by Shakespear (Much Ado About Nothing is my personal favorite).

2:35 PM - Leave the school, ride the busses home.

3:35 PM - Arrive at home after a bus ride where the busdriver had to yell at the kids in the back multiple times (how they dont know how to sit in a seat is beyond me).

3:40 PM - After a visit to the bathroom, right onto the computer for programming, 3D modeling, or chatting. That, or I turn around and watch TV

7:00 PM - Dinner.

7:30 PM - Finish eating the humongous dinner my mom made me and go back to my room and back onto the computer.

9:00 PM - Set Bedtime by parents (I cant believe I still got a bedtime, I've 14 for goodness sakes )

9:30 PM - Finally get to bed after my parents scolding me that I should have been in bed a half an hour ago. Lay down in bed and think for an hour about many things.

10:30 PM - Its around this time I usually fall unconcious and go to sleep. Usually dream about the cute girls in my school or some random adventure through New York City (I dont live there if you don't know).

and then it just repeats itself, except on weekends, then I dont have to worry about school and just go right on the computer.

I don't know why when everyone hears the word 'addictive' they automatically make drug references as if I either was not or expecting it or haven't heard it a thousand times before

Well it's good to see I got some opinions. But I think gaming, though at some points addictive, can be sort of controlled, like if you realize you've been playing for too long you can easily stop yourself.

That depends. Different people have different expiriences. I've known some people who really enjoy gaming but don't get effected by it at all, and others who get hooked on it and can't really enjoy any other games but computer ones.

@Pincho-- I like your smiley code explination, they should teach it in schools.

Kick off 2.

I went unemployed for 10 months after Uni, mainly because of this game (lazed about), and a mate who was very similar in skill, as well as being conveniently unemployed too. We used to play around 10 hours a day, pretty much most days in a month. Used to score points and stuff for every win, on every pitch/ weather type. Used to get into the hundreds before we would reset the figures. Must have broke about 4 joysticks on that game.

There was also mucking about with VB for DOS quite a bit (this was a while ago), but mainly KO2. Sigh, those were the days...

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

The only game I ever played long term was Civilization. Many a days or late into the nights did I sit and play a game from start to finish. It was the only game that ever grabbed me that way.

Pleasure? Not a word I'ld use to describe smoking, I quit 8 years ago and haven't regretted it since. The only thing good about fags is that they make you look cool.

One day, maybe next year once I get some vaction time saved up, I'm gonna set the World record for playing a single video game for the longest streach, my choice will be Front Mission 3 due to the fact it take over 80 hours to beat and you can start again will your skills from your last game.
