Very early look at my first attempt at a platform game. I've got basic tile collision detection working with sloping tiles and moving tiles.

All graphics on screen are loaded from a single atlas texture which I think seems to be a fairly efficient way to do it. With 500-600 sprites on screen it is only having to do 2 managed sprite draw calls and it runs at 60FPS on my Galaxy S2.

The atlas texture sub-images file and level tile layout were created in a level designing tool I am writing in c# alongside it.

Graphics were downloaded from www.opengameart.org and are by Marc Russell, www.spicypixel.net

Thanks Mike, still early days yet, once I get a bit further with the development I'll upload a playable demo.

I'm liking AppGameKit, makes for very quick game development. The next thing for me now is to look into using memblocks to handle data structures for a bit more flexibility than what is natively available.

I did consider using C++, but the lack of any intellisense for the CLI put me off.

Looks like a good start

Only sad part is that you cant do any comercial stuff with all that borrowed art? ( there is alot of games using this art )
Iam not sure but they where a part for a tutorial on html 5 game making on the codeprojects site ?

But when you have Everything solid so is it alot easier to get a good artist to join and make som uniqe art for it.

The licence for the artwork I have used is here http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/, so as I understand it I can use it for commercial work as long as I credit the artist.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not this game reaches the point that commercial release becomes a consideration.

You missed my Point
Using spicy pixel artwork or free stuff from other sites is almost the same as using mario or sonic art.

Alot of games already use them and most users have already seen the tiles and sprites.

I Think this guys art is great and reminds me of my atari and amiga Days.
I even considered to use this art as placeholders on some of my earlier Projects like my platformer for the intel appup competition.

I see what you mean now. And yes you are of course correct, if I reach a point where I'm seriously considering properly releasing this then I would look into having the graphics specifically designed for it.

Great start. My only complaint would be the amount of star particles when you grab a coin. Just seems a little too much or too big.

Thanks Phaelax, and yes, that's a good point about the star particles, I'll rework them a bit to tone them down.
