Hey all,

I am new here... so go easy on me.

I was thinking about grabbing a copy of Realm Crafter, mostly to make a little MMO game for my kiddos. It looks like it's been around a while and on Amazon it says it's not been updated via reviews. Is Realm Crafter really supported here and is it worth the purchase?

I can edit 3d models, tweak scripts a bit, I am great with texturing, I even know a bit about animating and I have used Poser and Second Life. I am not afraid to take what is there and improve on it... but of course id like it to work on the tech side where I am not really strong.

So again is it worth getting... or is it gathering dust?

Hey Victoria!

Thats a nice idea! But an MMO really lives off a community. Unless you have around one or two dozen kids I would advise you to gear your attention towards a singleplayer RPG or small Multiplayer adventure thing.

Not really. I remember one or two threads about it coming up here.
I was interested myself and googled it. The community seemed to be nice but posts where scarce already back then (its like 2 or 3 years ago). There was only one decent game I found aswell (according to my opinion)

I'd advise against it but I never actually used it.

There is also only one activly developed game on Moddb.

Thats pretty much it.

I can confirm what Wolf said, and must advise against purchasing it...

And if you wish to get technical, try DBPro or AppGameKit, you can grab AppGameKit for next to nothing right now on the Kickstarter, the forum thread regarding it is here http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=206330&b=41

DBPro and AppGameKit have free editions so you can have a look and see if coding err, interests you [Tried to avoid a cliché there ]

Also, HI and Welcome to the world of TGC

I bought Realm Crafter a couple of years ago. What a joke. They are always supposedly working on it and updates are 'coming soon', but they always get delayed or never come. I used to check it every month or so, but when I saw little/nothing was actually getting accomplished, I stopped looking. Unless they have changed of late, no way would I invest in it.

Well, I own RC since 2005 so I will resume the real facts about it.

Realmcrafter Standard is fully functional and you can really create good some games with it, just the graphics are outdated because the engine is too old (DirectX 7) check here:
http://heroesfate.com/
http://www.relicaonline.com/
http://gajatixsoftware.zxq.net/
and many more
+ The code source are even available freely.

Realmcrafter Pro is a joke!
They promised a lot, they have tried to convert the old engine in C++ and use Irrlicht engine (DirectX 9) but it's completly bugged and unusable.

Today there is no more support, the team has disapeared, and Mark "Dragon Bryant" is absent.
So if you can get a copy of Realmcrafter Standard and if you don't care about graphics, go for it.
But stay away from the Pro Version!

Hope it helps ^^

I also own Realm Crafter Standard, and it is NOT fully functional as previously mentioned.
It still has a lot of bugs and non-functional portions of it's toolsets and apps, and the support is totally non-existent... just read their forums at www.realmcrafter.com.

There are a lot of very unsatisfied customers there, and they show it.

It really is a shame, as the program really does have huge potential, but the company who owns it (Solstar*) is an absolute joke, and even when/if they do finally respond to an email to pretend to care about your questions, they never follow up or respond when you ask them to actually help you with a problem.

Don't waste your good money on what has turned out to be a very unfinished product... I am sorry to say it, but I feel like I have been totally ripped-off by Solstar, and I would never recommend their products or company to anyone.

Just to let everyone know who purchased Realm Crafter. Some of the RC Community members have taken it upon themselves to create a new community and try to develop RC to a working state. Though the RC site is currently down, you can visit the community site at http://realmcrafterce.com. We are working on bug fixes and upgrading the old DX7 graphics. Source code is available to anyone who can show proof of ownership of the engine.
