Hi guys,

I spotted 9 UFO's overhead last night while I was stargazing, I'm afraid I don't have any way of capturing video or photos though the telescope yet so I just grabbed my iPad and started recording. I have no idea what these were, They had no blinking lights that I'd associate with any plane or other aircraft. So I'm using UFO in it's official sense, that is I have no idea what they are, and well... they were flying lol.

Feel free to tell me what you think I saw!

P.S. It wasn't swamp gas, we don't have any swamps , and I think will smith might have been hanging from one of them.

They look just like those floating lantern things that people sometimes let loose. I guess the objects were much closer than you thought.

Here's a relevant link:

Ah that would make sense. Yeah it's hard to gage the distance of these things. I thought they were very high, and thus moving very quickly but I suppose they must have been quite low and moving much slower.

Made a bunch of sky lanterns for Halloween one year, formed like ghosts.
They may have been sky lanterns, but having seen these before I think these ones seem to be lasting too long. They tend to burn up pretty quickly and they usually keep rising till they do. Once the paper around the frame burns off there is nothing to support them and you would see them fall in flames.
Of course these may not have used a flammable paper to wrap them and would keep going till the wad burned out, still would have kept rising though and the flame used wouldn't be enough to light them up like that for very long.
Was the breeze right to send them in this direction and at this speed and did they appear to rise at same time? Its hard to tell from the video.

Would make just as much sense if they were hot air balloons. Or maybe some weather balloons but these tend to be tethered, they may have escaped

I cant tell if the lights are moving, or the camera is.

If you see a flying disk there is no mistaking it, they do maneuvers nothing else can do, changing direction and speed on a whim with no effects of momentum, they deny the physics of our current craft. Ive seen them in my teens over 50 times, Id watch them from my window if I couldn't get to sleep. Ive also seen things a little closer, Ill leave that up to your imagination.

Ive had a lot of 'odd' experiences, I dont bother telling people in real lifeā„¢, Im not 'entertaining people', and I wont pander to peoples cynicism 'belief package', so I keep it to myself. People have a lot invested in their safe and predictable world view, anything that challenges their personal bubble will only be met with anger, so its better to just leave them be and get on with your own life.

It was a very still night last night. The air was so still I was sweating buckets outside. There might have been stronger winds above of course, but certainly at ground level it was stifflingly still.

Hot hair balloons don't need to flare constantly once they've obtained height do they? If there was repeated short bursts of flame, or long bursts, then no light at all I'd agree. I've seen hot air balloons before, it doesn't really match my previous observations of them, but again. I'm not an expert.

Weather balloons are possible, but would they emit a flame-like light constantly? That brightly? Wouldn't they have flashing navigation beacons instead? I've never seen any so I don't know.

But you are right if they were sky lanterns they did have a heck of a burn time. Especially if there was a strong wind going.

@fallen one

For most of the video I was standing in the same spot, in the latter half you can make out the edges of the building around me and use those to gage the speed.

Saw one escaped weather balloon years back that had everyone freaking, this one glowed green and had no other lights so its possible they may come in orange flavour too. This one moved really slowly. I don't know that hot air balloons require constant flaring once they reach a certain altitude though you might expect at least one of them to have flared to keep altitude with the others.
It is possible I guess that some sort of lights aside from the flare would be on board. But I am not sure either that it would be legal to fly them at night without some sort of beacon light at least.

No other reports of this event in your area?

Sky lanterns fly for 5-10 minutes max. Although some genius may have built something that lasts longer. So it's still feasible these may be what you saw but for sure at least one of these would have burned up and fallen before disappearing over the rooftops in your video. It just seems too much of a coincidence that they all traveled so far. Not impossible I guess.

That puts be back in the "I don't know what they were" position.

If it was some kind of public display or event I've not heard of it and there's nothing I can find online for my area. Though Neath doesn't exactly have a strong online presence.

Although it appears its not illegal to fly hot air balloons at night they must have beacons and the pilot must be certified for night flying, they do this in groups apparently. All the same it appears they usually take off not long before dawn as landing the thing without hitting pylons etc is tough in the dark. So its unlikely that's what they were.
I am leaning more towards sky lanterns now and someone made em BIG, used to be there were very few that knew how to make them, in the UK at least, the one guy I knew that taught me was himself taught in China. He was from Wales

I think it's more of a laziness to investigate something that is unlikely to be anything remarkable.

I'm 95% sure these are lanterns. I heard some fireworks tonight, I don't know what the significance is but maybe it is the same celebration in Wales.

Although this is old its exactly the same story, I suspect you have a lantern maker in your area of Neath.
http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/truth-8212-Orange-lights-spook-locals/story-12438763-detail/story.html

It is suggested they may be released at Chinese wedding receptions I doubt that (at least in this case) as one sighting was at 4:50am.

That description tallies exactly with 40-year-old Mr James's account of what he saw while smoking at his open back door in Westwinds Close in Waunarlwydd."
Smoking what exactly

Still they don't appear to have come up anything solid then either.

No, it was absolutely silent, at least as far as I could tell against the background noise of cars.

It's certainly the most reasonable answer.

Quote: "Ive had a lot of 'odd' experiences, I dont bother telling people in real lifeā„¢, Im not 'entertaining people', and I wont pander to peoples cynicism 'belief package', so I keep it to myself. The danger here is belief, because that's nothing more than assuming it's whatever you want it to be. A message from god, aliens, whatever. Belief only shapes a personal world view, it doesn't shape the world itself.

On this basis, I call these what they are. UFO's, objects I am unable to Identify. We've got several working theories here, some appear more reasonable than others. Realistically the only way to know for certain is to find a person who released these objects and ask them, or find a way to observe them more closely.

I have a 6 inch reflector telescope, if I see them again in future while stargazing I'll try to aim the scope at them, I didn't on this occasion because I have no way of recording video through it in a reliable way, and I didn't know there was going to be 9 of them so I didn't feel I had the time to waste aiming the scope. Now I have a video I'll be more confident in trying to get a closer look.

I'm all for people challenging their world view, but not at the expense of abandoning perfectly natural explanations. Sometimes a marble is just a marble, rather than an alien space egg laying dorment ready to invade the world with mind controlling parasites.

If you really want to look outside the mundane and challenge the bounds of reality. Then try answering how an entire universe can apparently erupt out of nothing. Or finding the god that hid all those fake dinosaur bones to confuse evolution experts (Or just read Strata written by Sir Terry Pratchett).

Where can I buy the background music? That is one slick beat.

Is that a washing machine or a very loud clock?

It looks to me like aircraft in a holding or landing pattern. When they have their landing lights on, the nav lights are very difficult to see at a distance. Are you anywhere near an airport?

I've legitametely seen about 6 of these over the past month where I live as well (Pittsburgh, PA). I've just been mindblown that you saw the same thing, and GG, that was actually the description I had for them as well, but they moved entirely too quickly to be paper lanterns.

I'm just happy I'm not quite crazy.
