Depends what the problem is. I don't understand why text books are so often lazy and write the most dull problems you could possibly imagine.
I'm learning C++ from a book, and just covered vectors, the program example was asking a student to enter their homework grades and calculating an average. SNORE!

When I did a maths for science course it was all stuff like calculating the speed of growth of a stalactite, and the distance to the moon. Much more interesting.
