So here is a start for my first blender created head, If any one knows blender and has used it a lot any critic or know how would be nice.

I have learned all the tools but want to know any tricks or modifiers I do not know about. Any help with any know how on anything would be nice,thank you guys.

you might wanna - restart
currently what you got is going in the wrong direction

modelling a human face might sound easy but it is one of the hardest parts at the end
why simply because a head consists of multiple parts
and a nose/ eye/ ear might make your head model look human
but there are other things you need to think about
topology is one of those

and as you use blender
just start with wards Tutorial series

lol, I guess you do not know who I am, I have been modeling for years, I know how to model,just not in blender, thanks for your help any how.

guess i didnt know this was a p*** contest

anyways, try the W key when you are in edit mode
it opes up a panel that contains some usefull stuff such as
Bridge EdgeLoops - this one can be used make a bridge between edges
and would speed up your workflow in-general

another thing for fast switching between
vertex/ edge/ face - selection
press ctrl+TAB

well am done here, i pointed you to a usefull tutorial
and thats it

He is right though - the first model was a complete mess in about every possible aspect, the new model seems to be doing in the right direction though

Yes I know he was right, at first I was lost in blender, but then I found my way and here is a better look at my progress, I still need to practice in blender more, but for a beginner in blender,its not to bad.

Edit, I looked at that video and he is box modeling, I do not box model,I use planes then extrude. But he did explain a lot of the tolls and how to find them, so thanks for that.

one of my favorite tools is the dynamic spacebar menu control you can enable in user preferences.
inset polygon,
automerge editing,
ctrl e - edge slide,
ctrl t - triangulate face,
ctrl r - loop cut and slide
ctrl m - merge
ctrl j - join
ctrl f - make edge/face
are all handy.

later on once you get beyond the base mesh, multires, solidify, and shrink wrap modifiers are all great.

also note: when subdividing an edge, make sure you check quad/tri mode on the left side panel to avoid creating ngons

How do you do a uv map? am I missing something? or do I have to unwrap in another program ?

to uv map, in edit mode select all verts and then ctrl u will give an unwrap menu. there are several auto and projection modes, or if you want full manual control, you can define seams on selected edges with ctrl e - mark seam.

you can then work with the map in the uv/image editor panel. you can switch an existing panel to a different panel type or drag out a new one from the little control points in the corners of mot panels. i usually swap out the outliner in top right of screen

press n to bring up another useful properties panel on right side of viewport, has a lot of dynamic controls relevant to whatever is actively selected

I did what you said and nothing happened, all that happened was at the top, there was some writing then well,nothing,I looked to the side, and there a bunch of options for unwrap, but no editor, I AM LOST.

do you see where it says view, search, all scenes in top right corner of the screen. just left of this is a select box, this will let you choose between panels. the image editor will be an option in the pull down

Oh hmm, try dragging with the middle mouse button... or whatever control you use to move the view about a model in the viewport.

I remember now that alt + left drag is not a default, but only works when you enable 'emulate 3button mouse' in preferences, which I do prefer. I'm also pretty bad about setting up custom controls and then using them so long that I sometimes forget what is custom and what is default.

It's no worry, Blender isn't always the most intuitive at first glance, though once you get to know it, everything really does have a pretty consistent logic in it's own way, and overall the software is well worth the trouble to learn.

Well, For now I could not figure it out,so I unwrapped the head in another program and this is what I got so far, for my first real model in blender I like it myself.

i would say that there is too much jaw continuing down below the beard, or rther the beard texture is mapped too high on the jaw. also the texture resolution of the hat seems much lower than that of the face, causeing them to not fit well with each other visually

Yea, this was a fast texture, nothing permanent yet, just to see how the face will look with textures.Thanks for your help guys.

you've got a workable topology and a definite improvement but you could still use some more study of proportion and form. traditional drawing/sketching references will help with this. also, try viewing the model in orthographic as well as perspective mode, flip between them often and you will get a more complete feel for how the model actually looks.

at first glance the mouth seems wide, but i think it is actually ok on width, the problem is that the corners need to be pulled back some, so that it wraps the face, it is currently mostly planar on the x axis.

the eyes ARE too wide, and also need to have the outer corners pull back, just as the mouth.

as for the render, you should look into a good clay material and lighting setup, it really makes a difference in presentation from using the defaults. even just toning down the spec power and hardness will help make it more matte and allow a better view of detail and form.

Yea, I know, I just saw this my self, well, after you pointed it out lol.

The shape is the best I could do at the time as my middle mouse button does not work. So rotating Is hard to do, I have to use the z button.

my middle mouse is a scroll wheel that also pushes for a click, i find it awkward to use as a button and avoid it. if you enable 'emulate three button mouse' in preferences, you can rotate using alt + left mouse. i like that much better.
