Hello all

I have been toying with FPSC on an older laptop and just bought a new computer for college However, after I installed FPSC V1, I tried to install DX9.0c, and the computer wouldn't let me because I already have DX11. When I try to run FPSC, though, it says I need to download DX10 from June (or July) 2010 or later.

I think I need to download from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 However, before I put anything on my new machine, I thought I'd check here to make sure it's what I need

Thank you,
Captain Coder

Hey there,

the web-installer will install most DirectX versions on your computer. This includes the versions needed for FPSC. So, go ahead and install that!

FPS Creator 1 doesn't need DirectX 10, as this is already covered by FPS Creator X10. It is only false captioning in the error message.

Greetings,
Jan

It worked! Thanks for the tip.

However, I have a new problem now: FPSC needs me to turn off User Account Control (UAC). This is not the same as Windows Vista (the operating system I moved away from when I got my new computer), where you can simply turn it on or off; instead, there's a slider that allows you to set the level of activity UAC does. I tried setting it to the lowest setting - no UAC monitoring - however, FPSC still says I need to switch UAC off and crashes every time I try to open it I think if I reinstalled it on my specific user (not Program Files x86) then that might solve the problem. However, I'd rather avoid that as that is a bit time consuming for me to uninstall FPSC and then reinstall it (the repair feature does not work properly for me).

Does anyone know how to completely turn off UAC?

Thank you,
Colonel Glitch

Hi Captain Coder
The Win8 UAC problem has been discussed several times. In previous threads UAC did not need to be turned off. Here is a link to some solutions...maybe? http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=201994&b=21
best luck

Hey there,

I use xp-antispy to turn off UAC, as I find these messages disturbing and really not needed for me. I know what I do and one really should only turn UAC of, if he knows what he's up to.

So, yeah: http://xp-antispy.org/en/

xp-antispy can also turn off other various and not needed functions.

Greetings,
Jan
