No ban is permanent. A date always has to be put in for the end of the ban. Not everyone lives long enough to come back. Any particular reason for asking?

It's not up for discussion, sorry. If / when I hear from TheComet I will discuss it with him. A ban is a ban as far as I am concerned but people have been given second chances (after a ban) before. I'm not saying whether that will definitely happen or not. If anyone wants to discuss this with me they can do so by email.

If you mean the comment I quoted in my first post then it's probably in the final post. I looked at the final page to see why it was locked (I thought the thread was for garbage anyway so was curious what prompted the lock) - and from what I saw someone else was being offensive as well but I didn't notice them being banned.

Anyway, it seems the ban is permanent till advised otherwise so my question has been answered.

Please ban bitJericho too atleast. He obviously was trying to start an arguement / flame war there and from what I just read in the thread... I have to ask... is there something wrong with his brain? Is it wired backwards?
None of what he said had any grounds or proof or whatever. He said things that are not true at all or generalized everything how he liked to view it. Yes, he kinda asked us about it, if it's true or not, but didn't seem to read our (the bronies) posts...

That's all I gathered from that anyways.

I do not want to start an argument here. Or maybe I do. I dunno, I'm kinda pissed.
Then again, it's a thread about a TV show and only about 5 or 6 people ever posted there regularly; noone else seemed to go there anyways and from what I saw the stuff in the thread is harmless.
We once were asked to remove links to full episodes on youtube because of copyrights and complied. That was many month ago, I don't recall anything else that would break any rule.

If what bitJericho posted is not trolling or anything and he actually meant everything he posted: I'm very disturbed by what/how he thinks, about us and in general.

Thus I want him banned, if TheComet is banned.
Or you can just ban me here and now for liking a TV show and its (mostly harmless) fandom and I shall never visit this forum again.

From my understanding (and from one who has had a chance to see this from an outside perspective) is that the ban was given not for the argument in the MLP thread, but rather how the argument was conducted on the side of The Comet.

TheComet has had a history of posting what could be considered adult material and has been pushing on that boundry for a while now and has had multiple warnings about it.

It has nothing to do with MLP and to be perfectly honest I don't mind (and I'm sure the other mods don't mind) if another MLP is started in its place.


This is coming from someone who has not Moderated TheComet before (at least I can't remember if I have), so this is as objective an opinion as it gets!

I agree what bitJerico said was pretty much uncalled for, but these things are dealt with on an individual basis.

bitJerico doesn't have a history of this sort of thing, so this is why a mod might be a little more lenient with him.

TheComet however has had a pretty rocky history, so unfortunately we have to be a little stricter. Its a shame, because TheComet can be a great member of the community, but you can't be a great member and get away with breaking the AUP.

I've also realised that 'Seditious' is actually Benjamin, who has also had a rocky history, so I'll discuss what further course of action should be taken in the Mods Lounge!

I just read the last two pages of the pony thread and I realized that it's the first time I read any of it. It's a shame really, because I now see what I've been missing all this time. I found it to be sensitive, intelligent, and extremely informative.

I would also like to admit to you at this time - sort of coming out of the closet if you will - that I have been reading a rather well-known "mens" magazine for many years now. This magazine features "bunnies" among other things. I can assure you however, that my interest in this particular magazine is due only to the amazingly well written articles and ads, which are beautiful works of art in their own way. I have no interest in the bunnies whatsoever, even though they do tend to pose in provocative ways and wear no clothes.

Pretty sure after reading the last 100 comments on that thread he was not the only one and I am irritated to see that individual getting away with blatant flaming and annoyance as well as AUP breaking material, but then again I am not a MOD and I do not decide what breaks the AUP...

I'm very reluctantly going to see what xplosys finds so fascinating about the locked pony thread - out of pure academic interest of course. I'll pick two pages at random to avoid bias (excluding the last which I've seen).

Here goes, that thread has 102 pages and I've already seen the final one. Here's the code I'm using to select two pages from 1 to 101 (might as well do this scientifically )

43? I'm on that page . Well it seems I missed the fight, but I'll throw in that I watched the show largly for the sense of community. I stopped bothering with the thread once some of the initial members left. It's nice to connect with people in some way and the show let's you escape to feel like a kid again for at least a moment hard to argue against that (when in moderation). I don't really have any understanding of either side of the little quarrel though. We all know what happens when you argue over pure opinion (especially on these forums). Still I feel locking the thread was unneeded collateral, especially if even BiggAdd suggests replacing it. Yes, it's not up for debate, okay, but I'd like to know the reasoning behind it.

Also, for however long it is, I'll miss you TheComet

Well, the kids are in bed so I finally have 2 minutes to spare.

TheComet was banned because twice after his last slap posting images (or links to images) that were against the AUP. I already defended him to the other mods but he still keeps doing it. He has been slapped more times than even I care to forgive and if banning him for that is not a good enough reason then tough, I am not going to justify it more than that.

The ridiculous little flame war that went on is the reason the thread is locked.

I let one image (of a dead horse) slide this time but not again, I've put a note on that person's account about posting inappropriate images. If anyone wants to continue arguing about who said what and that this person or that person deserves a ban then do it somewhere else, the lock is a warning to the people arguing, not a slight against MLP which (as I told quik via email) is a perfectly fine subject to start a new thread about.

Any questions?

Edit: By the way for what it's worth I'm sorry TheComet couldn't contain his need to break the rules and I'll miss him too. Einstein said something about insanity being defined as doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.

Probably. There's quite a precedent for that. Just look at the old Ultimate Shader threads. Those interested can just start a new thread with a link to the old one in the first post - and hope that no-one with a sense of mischief visits the thread.

I'm very disturbed by what's been going on in that MLP thread. I've sent a list of issues from the last dozen pages or so (per mod request) that I have with many posts in that thread and perhaps I'll consider releasing the list once the mods have had a chance to discuss, remove posts, or otherwise dismiss my grievances.

I do honestly believe some of the bronies here are good people and are in fact not interested in supporting the sexualization of a children's TV show. There are a couple or 3 people that do need to be dealt with.

I'm not interested in seeing anybody banned. In fact, I don't care if you're interested in sexy ponies (although I probably won't want to hang out with you). I just don't want to see it here in our community. Our community is meant to be for budding programmers. Read: kids. Kids should not have to accidentally stumble upon weird grownup fetishes here. They can do that on their own somewhere else and if their parents so allow.

Personally, I don't like it. Using that as your sig is dragging the joke out too long and making it seem malicious. It will only cause further friction.

I haven't paid much attention to the MLP thread and I all I could see there was arguing back and forth.

well well - baxslash did take a look and if i understand correctly, it was thecomet that did post them pictures. - but i can assure you that in general, sexualized loony tunes characters is definitly not uncommon - like i said earlier, smaller fandom = less chance of it slipping out

1-GG the dead horse image was one of a horse that had been mutilated and burned to death in graphic detail. I wouldn't want children to see it on a site about game making and I'm saddened that you of all people are poking fun at me.

2-I've had enough of this. I became a MOD by proxy and am only trying to keep these forums a nice place to come to for everyone. Banning TC is my last job as a Mod. I quit.

Actually, I think it was a horse that had already died (from natural causes) and was being burned instead of buried. I would be the last person to post an image as you described.

The bottom line is that banning is not something we do lightly. In anything but the most obvious cases (spam bots etc), it is discussed at length and the user tends to always have time to heed warnings. In this case, he had more warnings than most users would get, and finally one of those posts turned into a straw.

We don't just ban based on 1 incident, we ban based on a history of a user and the amount of times we've had to take action. Frankly, if you can't see why the user got banned, then that shows what a remarkable job the mods here do.

*Phaelax - DBC oldtimer and maintainer of a very helpful website

This is forum sooo cute when you think about it, you have all your little community rules and you take everything so seriously.

Mod Edit: Kinda has to be this way. I mean, imagine if this website got flagged by a schools security system because of inappropriate content... that's possibly students who can't post here, and angry parents, teachers. Most of the rules are there to protect younger members, and keep the forum family-friendly.

I hope you reconsider that. I'm sorry if my sense of fun upset you, it wasn't intended to.

As for The Comet, let's just wait and see. He isn't the first, and surely won't be the last, colourful character to leave this forum under a cloud. Always a shame but that's life. At least his final email to you is gracious. Let's all move on.
