Hi everyone,

You will know that Windows 8 has been updated to windows 8.1 (not preview). I don't understand what is the reason... but AGk doesn't work (it compiles but my game is not opened). You will always get a error.

I have tested a lot of actions and I have got the next solution.

First, compile the application.
Press the play icon (test your application)... if you get a error...
You must return to metro screen and you must activate the searcher (press any key).
Now, return to AppGameKit and press play...

The application should work

Perfect! But, this is not a solution... it's a bad way to solve the problem...

Would you know other solution for this problem?

Thanks for the workaround! Hopefully, this can be fixed in future versions of AGK. Workaround worked on Win 8.1 Enterprise (RTM).

@Markus - If it worked for you w. no issues it makes me think it's the driver installed for the crappy intel video card my laptop runs. I see you are running an AMD Radeon in your rig.

@Juande - What kind of card is in your machine?

Thanks!

@kaband, I have a laptop with two integrated cards. Intel graphic 4000 and Nvidia Geforce GT 645M. I have tested with both graphic card. AppGameKit was working with windows 8 (and with both cards)... but now...

@Juande
did you try to disable the intel card in bios?
seems this one is one board?

@Juande - Interesting. I also have a Intel 4000 card in my laptop, but don't have the GeForce option. AppGameKit also worked with windows 8 for me as well. The whole search window workaround seems so bizarre. I went to intel's site and re-installed their driver software. It was the exact same version that I was already running, but figured it couldn't hurt. It didn't hurt, but it also didn't help any.

@Markus, It's not possible to disable the intel card in bios (there is not any function)

@kaband, I have tested with the two cards (i can only work with nvidia card when i run AGK) and I get the same error... I don't think the intel card (or drivers) is the problem

ok, so if it is a nvidia problem no one can use 8.1.
we need someome where w8.1+nvidia+agk works and this driver version.

I have two computers.

nVidia 260GX - works with AppGameKit using latest drivers but you have to start a Metro app first

AMD Radeon HD 7950 - can't get AppGameKit apps to run at all Latest 13.11 v8 beta drivers.

AGK 108 (Backed v2)
Windows 8.1 x64 - 8Gb RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7950 3Gb

It's faintly possible that 8.1 is refusing to run programs that are not properly installed with an installer. Might be worth a try.

There are loads of reports on the web of problems with OpenGL on 8.1

This doesn't surprise me at all. Microsoft probably has no desire to worry about making things compatible with OpenGL at all. They are pretty well wedded to DirectX and don't like to support public domain stuff.

My 8.1 installation works fine with my compiled AppGameKit apps. I have an AMD graphics card.

same here, updated to windows 8.1, got a intel (r) hd graphics in my all-in-one pc, and AppGameKit has stopped compiling. It now just crashes.

If I press win key + f and bring up the search, AppGameKit then compiles, and the program runs.

no, win 8.1 just stays .exe has stopped working, windows will notify you if a solution is available. However, press the win key + f first (to make the win 8 search appear / and then cancel it), the game compiles and appears on screen. Its nuts. Tried reinstalling AppGameKit - no luck, it still crashes with win 8.1

This sounds like Microsoft changed something sort of fundamental in 8.1. Or just introduced a very weird bug in their desktop handling.

This issue is not unique to AGK. Google "Windows 8.1 introduced app startup bug". This post in particular is interesting.

This might not be anything that TGC can fix. It appears to be a Windows issue. They really should not have tried to make a desktop environment look like a tablet.

The web is full of various reports. Intel 3000 graphics seems to be one issue. Microsoft have SERIOUSLY screwed up on this one!

I installed the Windows 8.1 preview to see if I could find out what's going wrong and it turns out it's the Ultrabook sensor commands that were added some time back. When there are no sensors the SensorAPI previously returned an empty set, it now returns an invalid pointer, so we now check the error condition before using it.

This will be fixed in version 2, but I've uploaded a tier 1 and tier 2 patch to the downloads area that should fix it for 108.19. If I end up with a lot of little fixes I'll do a 108.20 version.
