Hi.

I installed today Windows 8.1 (For Elite Dangerous alpha).

I noticed the old fact:

If you take your old DBP 1.058 installation folder from XP and
move it under Windows 8.1, everything works. (Just run the editor
from the editor folder).

You dont have to install direct x or anything.

Just write your game and give it to someone. It works right
away in any Windows from XP on.

Like this screensaver I made back in -06

...what if I had to install it on W8.1?

I did not try that.

But this way I did not have to make any compatibility settings
for example.

Of course the version is old. But so easy.
All the messing with direct x versions started after 1.058.

That is how I remember it.

A similar thing happened to me on my W7 laptop.

I decided to start with a clean install from the original CD into a folder in My Documents - and everything worked fine. There might have been some messing about with permissions when I upgraded to U77 but nothing major. I don't know what it was about one of the upgrades that flagged up the various security warnings - or why whatever it was wasn't simply removed. I'm sure there must be a good reason for all the pain.

I have to report, that Elite Dangerous wants also
the DirectX 9 installation.

So latest version of Darkbasic Pro is very compatible
with Windows 8.1 (Similar to the newest games)

But still, 58 works without installing DirectX 9.
