It's all about lighting. It's amazing how much light can affect a way a scene looks. Also; background objects, colors and set design have a HUGE impact on the way movies look and "feel".
You could have had a worse ISO setting, but in the case of the video you showed, upping it by a small bit probably wouldn't have been such a bad idea. You've also got to take into account the exposure of your lens. If you're using the kit lens, you're gonna have a REALLY hard time getting the aperture open wide enough in order to let in enough light for low-light scenes. You'd really do better doing tests outside with the kit lens.
