Ok, I am finally getting back in to the swing of things and have decided that I will finally learn how to model organic objects starting with a basic human mesh.

Here is the tutorial that I found, I think it's a very good tutorial and teaches a solid foundation for character modeling.

while it is not specific to blender, the joan of arc tutorial on 3dtotal is also an excellent intro to character modelling concepts and workflow and these can easily be applied regardless of any specific modelling package.
