Free books? Just Google. Otherwise no idea. Check out O'Reilly books, they're inexpensive. This is a forum for The Game Creators' App Game Kit product. Please try the General forum or Game Making forum for questions like these.

They are! I've yet to "finish" any of them, but they work as a good reference and foundation so that I at least have some idea of what I'm doing in java now (still not a lot...)
