I try to make sure my technical issues are as complex and unusual as possible-lol
Almost ready for a release- worked out all compatibility bugs...
or so I thought.
There is an issue with "plrdisable" on Windows 8.
Does anyone know about this? Couldn't find anything in any posts.
I am starting with a tutorial guide game- it begins with a "plrdisable" and writing hud gui text to screen.
This is using etimer to pause player walking until the gui fades out.
Works on XP, XPPro, Win7, and W... oops Win8 simply freezes the keyboard and never returns control! If you load a save game that was saved previously on another non-Win8 system- it returns keyboard control.
Tried etimer and timer...
Does anyone know- does plrfreeze cause the same issue?
Is there a Windows 8-Safe way to freeze the player for timed pause then giving back control to the keyboard?
Compatibility mode Win7,WinXP etc does not resolve.

Hi s4real- thanks!
I got it resolved. Now dealing with 2 new issues-
#1-
video playback on Win7 and Win8- unbelievable-lol.
Microsoft certainly believes in moving backwards with every new release. But, it must get resolved.
I'm creating a loading routine with the intro video encrypted in the exe along with the FPSC exe. It works fine on XP of all kinds, but so far haven't found a video codec that works in Win7 and Win8.

I'm not talking about the typical "what vid should I use with my FPSC game?" issue-
The program I'm using to create the loading routine is MultiMedia Fusion 2. It needs AVI. AVI is supposed to be considered the standard. Earlier machines up to Vista are supposed to be able to load Indeo or Cinepak even if Media Player is not present. Neither of these would load on Win8-ridiculous.
So, I tried DivX- currently considered the most commonly used codec- Won't load on Win8.
Tried XVid- won't load on Win7 or Win8.
Now... it is possible that vids on their own will work- have more testing to do, but MM2 is one of the best compatibility programs even if a year older than current testing.
If I were not using MM2 to load vid, I would opt for WMV converted from a higher format, bc it is specifically designed for Windows Media Video. But, I can't do that the way I hope in MM2.

Using video inside an FPSC game- you guessed it- has a crash error that TGC never decided to debug- wrote directly and there were three unanswered threads on the topic. BC it doesn't happen to most people, they didn't address. The problem- I don't want to add to the list of people that may not be able to play.

The other issue-
The Numeric overlays when load/save some games. Example- load a game- health/lives look fine. Save game, play, load from previous point- loads health/lives on top of health/lives. Since I have made a custom setting- it is even worse- loads them where it wants them AND where I placed them. Looks really unprofessional, but I think they have their placement hard coded and then the routine I want offered to edit in setuplevel file.
These have held up the release by 2 weeks when the levels have finished testing.

Microsoft in there great wisdom don't have many codec support with standard windows 7 or 8 and windows 8 has even less support not even will it play dvd's with out codecs being installed from a 3rd party software.

I use wmv for video and runs fine for me in windows 8 as like you said it standard.

To play all formats I downloaded a program called klite codec pack and that makes window 7 and 8 play anything you push at it and works great.

Save and load has had a lot of work trying to get it to work again but we still looking into why some issues still happen.

thanks for your report best s4real

ps :- not sure when I get time to look into this as my time is limited at the moment .
