El Chicle: A Revenge Tale Is a 2D puzzle-platforming game, with a unique story and gameplay that lets you play however you want.

Story:
El Chicle was spat out by an ungrateful high-school student, because he didn't appreciate El Chicle's unique taco flavour. It is your job to help El Chicle exact his revenge on the student, by jumping through the school, getting as dirty as possible to eventually give his betrayer distasteful surprise.

Gameplay:
In El Chicle, it is your job to get El Chicle dirty, without him drying up. Make him stick to dirty objects to pick up the dirt. Every time you jump, and slowly over time, El Chicle starts to dry up, though.
Try and land him in pools of water to hydrate him when he starts to dry up. Don't stay in the water too long though, as it cleans off your dirt, which you need for a high score. Keep playing to learn the levels and compete for the best score in three categories (total score, time to beat the level and number of jumps to beat the level).

If you want a less competitive gameplay, you can always fill your water and not worry about your dirt levels. You can even play an easier difficulty, which will let you stick to surfaces longer, and you'll dry out less quickly.

Controls:
To play El Chicle, simply hold your finger (or click and hold for PC) on El Chicle, then drag in the direction that you want to launch. When you let go, El Chicle will launch with power depending on how far your drag was. You can move the camera around to get a good look around the level by holding/clicking on an area outside of El Chicle and moving your finger/cursor around the screen to drag the camera.

Demo:
We currently have our first demo out for Android, Windows and Mac OSX. There is also an IOS version, but because the game is not finished, we are not allowed to distribute it. We have an IndieDB page set up for the game, where you can also download the demo. Our IndieDB page is http://www.indiedb.com/games/el-chicle and the demo can be found in the downloads section.

Stream:
Each month we will also be doing a 24-hour stream, where we will be working on the game, while everyone interested can watch and provide feedback. At the end of the stream, we will also be releasing the next free demo, which will have new levels and features. If you're interested in the development of the game, have some ideas or just want to keep playing the game, stop by our twitch page at twitch.tv/sectionedgames and join in.

Screens:

Future:
We have many features planned for the game. Each level will be based on the specific classroom, and each level will have many stages. As you can imagine, this will allow for plenty of creativity in level design. Some other features that we have planned for future versions:
  • Powerups
  • Full dialogue and animations to tell the story
  • Online leaderboards
  • Character skins (character skins will not only change the way El Chicle looks, but also change all of the dialogue and animations to match. The skins will be unlockable in a manner similar to achievements.)
  • Multiplayer
  • Built-in map editor, allowing you to create and share your own levels.
  • And much more!

It's a great concept and very fun to play. I would say that after you get out of the pipes it's a bit hard to tell where you're supposed to be going... the odd arrow might be useful.

Great work!

Cheers for the comments.

I don't know how much of the level will end up staying the same for the final version, but that is a good idea, one that we'll certainly consider when doing more work on that area of the school (as we want to work on the game in chronological order, and the gym was intended to be one of the later levels).
