Sam is my small AI project That I'm working on. Its not a game but an intelligent application. Sam has the ability to converse through learning and storing information. He starts off with the understanding of only three of four word (E.g 'yes','no' and 'exit') Its comin soon.

The ANSWER is out there- but where?

sounds reasonably straight forward but would be a b$t$h to implement! good luck! would be cool if it could be integrated into db projects, type in your own dialogue instead of pre-written dialogue, but thats..... another story.....

If I was going to program an AI such as this, I would want to do it in an object oriented atmosphere such as C++ or JAVA.

Anyway, that's just my opinion, not that it counts. It's just that DarkBasic was really meant to make graphics programming and logic easier for the windows user.

That's true, but arguably isn't that what humans do? Just react to stimulae?

I think the definition of AI is something that can learn more that it was programmed to learn. For example, this program learning to play a sound whenever someone types "WHAT IN THE SWEET MOTHER OF JUMPING JEHOSAVA IS THAT????"

As yet, know one knows how to do that. The closest yet it Tierra.

WOW! Somebody has same ideas I do
That's great!

Don't listen to other people
AI is not a NN simulation.. A simple if statement is an AI. Our bodies built in the same way..

The problem is what is you goal?

1. To create AI
2. To create self aware AI

1. Could be done to some degree and in theory full AI.
2. Has not even been proven theoreticaly,
no body know, how do we know that we are thinking?
Is that our chemical/electronic brain or is it something else - soul?
So nobody actualy knows what self aware is..

But closer to topic, I didn't even tried to implement #1.
I was trying to understand how could computer be told meaning of Yes and No? All other stuff can be build on that..

Keep us posted

BTW, what you use for your DB?

Human AI works like this..

Stage1. Baby Stage. Mother Father Input instructions. Answers = Yes or No. Mother Father usually never lie. Information is stored accurately. Yes answers mean Yes. No answers mean NO.

Stage2. Sight Stage. We use our vision to store loads of information with every answer from our parents. Grass is green, therefore you have 10 Thousand answers to 1 question. What colour is grass? It's green! 10 Thousand answers right there! If grass is green, then leaves are green, apples are green, The Hulk is green...etc 10 Thousand answers to 1 question.

Stage3. Yes/No/Maybe. You move into an environment full of lies. Yes/No is no longer good enough. You need a 'MAYBE' A 'maybe' would store a strength to an answer. The strength is stored progressively. Lots of 'maybe' = yes. You also use your vision to look for tell-tale signs of lies, and you listen to the sound of the voice for breaks.

Now put this into a computer program without sight, and hearing. A human without these things is not all that bright. Also, a human without these things has to believe almost everything that they are told. The 'MAYBE' part is very limited.

Overall, it is best to wait for computers to have eyes, and ears. Then they will shock everyone with their ability to immitate humans perfectly.

Sam will now be availible to download BETA version in ZIP form from showcase. Although it is pretty crud (V3.4) but I have just about finished 3.5, which will recognise single words in complex scentences and extract the precise meaning.

I said: my name is Chris Knott and from then on I was refered to as "My Name is Chris Knott". Maybe it should ignore words like "My name is" and "I'm called".

It needs some information to start with. It should know what Yes and No mean at least. Plus it doesn't scroll the screen up.

What you want to do is already being done and its open source.
Checkout Http://www.alicebot.org
The database is already started and it learns in real time.

Once you got that done, make it walk around the house with this:

Im working on a simular project
