Nope, she roars! My brother was driving my jag behind me and said it was making the whole dash shake.

'03 jag s-type R, although I'm considering selling it for something a little easier on gas.

The DMV we went to turned out to not do title services..... So I had to buy 30 day tags. But that gives me time to find some '73 historical plates.

You wouldn't happen to know something that removes paint but won't damage chrome?

Ooh, nice Not as cool-looking as the Duster, but really posh all the same!

I have no idea what that means. I'm in Australia, remember, and given both vehicles are LHD I'd say you're in America.

Good 'ol paint stripper should do it just fine. Apparently fine steel wool, rubbed gently and horizontally can help, but be I'd loath to try it for fear of scratching it. You could try nail-polish remover as well, but it's basically the same thing as paint stripper.

EDIT: If you're ever unsure if a particular chemical or solvent will damage a surface, the standard procedure is to find a hidden corner and just try a tiny bit.

I asked the guys on my jag forum and they suggested paint stripper also. Another said brake cleaner. Just came back from the store and a guy said don't use brake cleaner, use a rag with gasoline.

Oh and I found some 1973 plates to put on the car. What's even cooler is they came from a guy in town who collects plates... they're brand spankin' new! They're original '73 plates that were never issued and still in the packaging. Only thing is, he wouldn't sell just 1 set so I had to buy all 4 sets.

Yup, petrol's good for stripping stuff too. Just wash your hands thoroughly afterwards or use gloves because excessive skin-contact with petrol can cause leukaemia

Awesome, that's not easy to achieve!

It was only $50 for all 4. I think I can make the money back on eBay with the other sets.

Ah, probably. If you're clever you can probably get more for them than you paid

If there is one thing I can't stand in a car its a gearbox where shifting feels like playing with a plastic toy.

This doesn't look like one of these cars...

How does such a thing corner?

It's American. It doesn't.

As a side note, we used to own a '78 Ford Fairlane, in Midnight Blue. It was spectacular, and Dad's pride and joy, but in the end we couldn't fit our whole family (7 people) and had to buy a Peugeot station wagon (which we sold a long time ago because it was too gutless to go up hills). I'll find some of the many photos Dad's taken and show you later.

Hey now, America has turns and hills, too! Especially where I live.

My jag? Beautifully. oh oh, you meant the 40yr old boat... I haven't driven it anywhere yet where I'm able to truly test that. No power steering, but you really only notice when in a parking lot. I need to raise the suspension (air suspension) up a few inches, as right now my pipes are only only about 3 inches off the ground. If the road isn't totally flat, I hit the bottom.

Oh I'm sure you can get 7 people into a Fairlane, those were big cars!

If anyone's curious, I was really tempted to buy this '56 Olds 88.

We have an '87 VW Golf Mk 1 Cabriolet (very rare in Aus), and you get fit just driving around carparks in it

Probably, yeah

Ooh, nice. That just instantly says 50's America. Love it! Almost want the interior to be bright red

I stripped the paint from the front bumper. Took a few days to get it all cleaned up, but came out pretty decent I think. I used blue magic polish and it helped, but still looks dull for chrome. It really needs to be rechromed, which the best price I've found was about $350-400.

Still pricey for mere cosmetic work, but with a car like this only two things mattered; the engine and the exterior. You'd be surprised how many cars like this that may look like a showroom vehicle but barely have any interior at all!

Either way, I still think this old chrome looks better than fresh spray paint.

The Duster now has ipod support!

Installed some new 6x9's in the trunk (none were present) and hooked them up to the Alpine KTP-445U. It's very small and easily hides behind the dash. I don't have the front speaker connected yet, the car only has a single front speaker in the middle of the dash anyway and it wouldn't be possible to add speakers to the doors. I made a custom harness that uses a 1/8" jack for the audio source input, so I can use my iphone or even my ipod nano 5th gen (which has an FM radio).

The main reason I went this route was so I wouldn't have to alter any of the factory dash. If I really wanted to, I could've cut into the dash and fit a full 7" touchscreen, but I like all my customizations to be reversible.

I'm very jealous... especially as it is as old as I am (the Duster and plates)
