Tried AppGameKit Studio for the first time in a while to run my game. AGK2 runs it at about 620Fps on average (bounces around) and AppGameKit Studio runs at about 500Fps on average. That's a massive slow-down in AppGameKit Studio! Any clues? For now, definitely sticking with AGK2!

Thank you blink0K! Appreciate the kind words! Working on last few World 2 graphics (again). World 3 and World 1 done but World 2 was a bit lacking so I've added a mountain range (see Twitter) and currently working on some foreground rocks. Then a few World 2 levels, then a few world 3 levels... then I'll create a full trailer and up goes the Steam page! I can see the distant glow of light at the end of the tunnel!

Yes... it's funny, I've been working on this since March 2014... more than 6 years... and literally in the last two months it's finally all coming together and all that work is starting to come together into a real game. Super exciting. Each level takes about a week of intense work to put together so still a chunk of work to do but graphics are about 95% done (just a few odd tiles and some trophies etc), the coding is 95% done except for Steam integration where I'm hoping Adam Biser's plugin will come to the rescue. Sound if 95% done except for music which I might do a kick-starter to help get done.

Should have a video of a full world 2 level in the next week or so....

And... thanks for the kind words Virtual Nomad.

Don't say that - they're different styles of game! The fact that you've gotten as far as you have in game dev is something to be proud of. It's super hard developing a game with one or two people - they take a huge amount of effort, even if you enjoy the journey, and a surreal degree of persistence! Keep it up and release your game and you'll be one of the one in 10,000 that actually complete and publish a game! Rock on Captain Ouais!

I want to create at least 5 levels, I will soon finish the second.
I think the rest will be easier to code because I did the most difficult.

Cool - so you're getting pretty close! I think the main tricky part left for me will be steam integration - I plan on using Adam Biser's plugin. Have you looked into that?

Yes, shame really! I'd have thought Steam integration would be right up on the list of must-have's on a game engine but I'm fairy sure it's not covered at all. Adam Biser thankfully has created a really good plugin from what I know though. First sales revenue will go to him - I'm fairly sure he has a donate link somewhere. Not sure how active he is on the forum?

Starting my first full World 3 level design! After 5.5 years of development! It's a bit daunting as it's the most complex tile-set and the one with the most potential for pretty levels I think.... but gotta get it right! Can't wait to share some piccies or a video.

Turns out the World 3 tileset is going to be a giant PITA to build levels with because the bricks cross two tiles (alignment becomes a constant issue!). I had it in my mind as a complication but the reality is that it makes level building less flexible and waaaaaay harder. So... I need to change them all to smaller blocks.... which has knock on effects... Reckon it'll be a week at least to make the change over. Still - at least it's not all hand drawn pixel art - that would be a total nightmare!!!! Should be better in the end but man... it's a lot of extra work just as I thought I was ready to build my first World 3 level!

Thanks Virtual Nomad - World 3 is probably the richest in terms of scenery. My favourite... though takes longer to create each level as there's so much you can add!!!

Short clip of WORLD 1 BOSS! https://twitter.com/aquillanto/status/1338874292034002948

It's so much fun to destroy!!! Took a while to get the mechanic right but having him on the swaying platform really works well.

Cheers guys! I spent a long time getting the mechanic of this level right - having the boss on a moving platform (and the boss moving) gives a fantastic feel. You really do feel like a hero jumping over and around him to deliver more blows... Lookinf forward to doing a proper full HD Youtube video of this boss fight.

Anyone with experience selling games on Steam?

Just wondering a few things like whether you can have a store page ready (trailer, description etc) before actually uploading your game (does steam allow it with nothing uploaded)? Also wondering if you can set up your store too early? I've heard that it's good to get it up well ahead of the game launching to max out your wishlist but wondering if you end up with people who are interested eventually un-wishing listing you because it's taking too long?

Thoughts?

Trophy graphics done! (See one here) I now have very very few graphics left to do.... can't believe that parts of the project are actually coming to an end!!!!

There is light at the end of this almost 7 year tunnel... Getting closer and closer to creating a Steam Store-Page with Wishlist....

Looking good! It does have this euro platformer feel to it, like in the good old amiga days. Very impressive for a solo dev!

I was about to say something about the music (it sounds like placeholders a bit) when I noticed this:

Quote: "
I'll get someone else to do the music at some stage but otherwise it's solodev.
"

I could definitely give it a shot if you want. I got quite a few years of composing under my belt. Let me know

Thanks for kind words! Yes, music is placeholder stuff at the moment. When I've got the Steam page up with Wishlist I intend on running a small Kickstarter to fund music production and a few other things... so yes, stay in touch!

Almost done with media encryption.... funny old task - you spend a couple of weeks coding away and testing and at the end of it... the game looks exactly the same!

A bit of tidy up and then onto Steam stuff...
