well its time to do something. I'm considering doing a moonbase simulation game so I have to ask for those interested what you would like to see in it.

How detailed do you plan to get? It could be interesting.

a) he asked what to see in it, not what to NOT see in it
b) haters gonna hate
c) why not, it is funny to have half-horses on the moon as we had birds in space

@gamerboots

Here is a funny plot for the game: player must grow up horses on the moon base to fill the rocket with them (heard of car horse power?) to escape. He can build clone labs, produce food and other stuff like air. Take a look at the Settlers series, it has a nice production chains.

a) should read "Because not everybody" as "because not me"
b) Why you mentioned child cartoons when I was talking about ponies on the moon?

Find here angry birds and tell me more expert opinions on games with animals.

Monsters that eat ponies so quick they're all gone before you leave the title screen.

Simple and fun. I was thinking of adding all the necessary buildings that would be needed such as power, oxygen generators, residential areas, mining stations, and a few random events. Maybe a research center for getting new buildings.
@Phalex
No I was kidding - no ponies in the project, unless as a mod for a random event or something like that.
@Mr handy & Wattywatts
Sounds like an idea for another project at some time in the future.

The question is what would you like to see in such a game?

I would have assumed so, but consider this case of Angry Birds meets Angry Dad

There was a certain YouTube video I watched some time ago about a certain dad who got really annoyed with his son for deleting his Angry Birds game. I will not post the video here because it contains about 20 swear words per minute; not quite the kind of humour for everyone, but I find it quite funny.

[edit]That looks like an eye on the pony's rear end?

how about a sub mission exploring ancient alien ruins that leads the player to learn that the moon is in fact a giant fossilized cheese.

Might be cool to have the moon 'day' split into dark and light - so you get this dark shadow period where the player has to maintain their power levels (no solar) and defenses more. I like games that have a specific day period, like Minecraft and Don't Starve - it punctuates gameplay sessions and provides a constant threat that the player can plan for.

Asteroids hitting your base could be a threat as well, could even have an early detection system that the player can build.

I think the main thing with all types of space games, even those on set on planets or moons, is that there are distinct and critical conditions and the player understands that. Life support has to be maintained, maybe resources have to be picked up from various locations around the moon, maybe the player has to plan missions to retrieve them. Do you send out a slower solar powered buggy or a greedy drone. Difficult options need to be worth it in the long run... the arts and crafts department for example might have to be jettisoned. Could be fun to make those kinds of severe decisions - if an asteroid knocks out your power resource, maybe you don't have enough to keep everyone alive.

I am the one who knocks...

Oh, forget ponies.

I have a GREAT idea! How about a game like Dungeon Keeper? We have so few of this kind!

Story: you are the Super Villain that live on the Moon and want to take control over the Earth.
Gameplay: you are building a moon base.
Goal: to build a super weapon.
Ways to do it: there should be several super weapons, like Nuclear Rocket, Giant Laser or Brainwashing Ray. or exploding ponies
Disasters: like meteor storm or rockets from Earth (military): ruin your base and damaging Super Weapons.
Economics: some mafia people arrive from earth in shuttles with money or resourses in exchange for missions or secrets plans or whatever. You have to buy some details on Earth (you can't have everything on the Moon!). Also you mine iron, uran and stones on the Moon.
Enemies: military shuttles with troops and Super Heroes like James Bond.

Yes, some kind of natural disasters like the old sim city game. (stupid tornados!)
Solar flares could cause you to temporarily lose power on any buildings that don't have upgraded shielding.

@Van
I like what you are thinking Van. I thought of this as well and was thinking that as a planet rotates around the sun it could go through a dark phase where power would run low. However, I believe that I will add this as an option.
I like the idea of a constant threat to plan for as this improves gameplay tremendously.

@mr handy

Yes I have a DK game scheduled as a future project. Will let you know when I'm ready to commit to the project.

@Phaelax

Yes, natural disasters are a must.

For threats asteroid impacts are a must + will definitely add +

This of course will become an official project once I get everything sorted out on what needs to be added and whatnot so all suggestions are welcome.

Actually, I'm going to bump this.
making a project announcement on here is simply to disorganized. Threads lock too fast, and I do not want to make multiple postings so if anyone wants to keep up with current un-official projects or the one in this thread (which is currently on the table) they can go to my developer project forum
@Mr Handy
There you will find my schedule and can vote for a dungeon keeper like game if you wish.

I did however want some feedback before I went further on it and thank you all for that especially Van
