Hi guys, another update

I have managed to implement all the features on the APP now so all buttons work!

All I have to do now is draw some pictures to colour and it is finished!!!

There is one issue regarding the save button but that is a problem with AppGameKit which hopefully Paul will sort. Check this thread:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=213571&b=41&p=0

I suppose this could be sorted as an update when AppGameKit has the next update?

Can't wait to get these pictures sorted now and get this little APP released on the Play Store! Might get an AppGameKit Developer badge! lol

Hi guys!

Well Paint Pot Lite has been released on the Google Play Store!!!!

It has 5 pages to colour as it is the lite version to try and get a bit of interest while I draw further pictures to release the full paid for app. The lite version is free.

Not expecting to make a fortune but you never know, might make enough for the Apple license fee to release on there in time!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leap.paintpotlite_app

Hope you like it and can help me out with some nice reviews and don't forget the target audience is 2 to 5 years olds.

@Jim Hawkins and David Gervais, check out the description as you are mentioned in the, with thanks section.

Cheers.

Yeah, this launching in the 'fee to list' stores is a gamble anyway, so smart play using game profits to finance the venture.
Trying a few of those JAM contests in your spare time might help you get there too.
Some of them have cash prizes, like the FlexIndie JAM that Josh had pointed out.
That one has a 1st place prize of $150, and the JAMs are usually short term.

Here is a link to the IndieGameJams Timeline, which you can drag to scroll, to see upcoming ones.
I know they are a long shot, but like you said, who knows.
Even 2nd place $50, or 3rd place $25 in the FlexIndie JAM1 gets us part of the way, so the short ones with cash prizes are ideal.
I hadn't paid much attention to these contests before, but they look like a fun way to scratch up some extra expansion/advertising money for our games.

Hey thanks for the info, that sounds good. I may have a bash when I get a bit better at this lol.

Hope you download the app, it's free as it is the Lite version. See what you think.
Don't be too harsh lol

Cheers.

Getting it now...
Not sure about the name though. (as far as uniqueness and people searching for it)
Did a search in the Educational category for "Paint Pot" and found 9 apps named 'Paint Pot' or 'PaintPot', but none were yours.
Didn't see you in the top 250 matches either, so searched again using 'Paint Pot Lite' and found you as #73 on list.

Played with it a little and I like it.
The SAVE works great and put the files in my Picture folder without a reboot. (same as Here Be Pirates)

My only suggestion now (other than a name change) is maybe slide the menu out for a couple seconds then back in at the intro.
Just to get the user's attention and make them more aware that it is there.
A quick spin of the brushes in one direction or the other will let them know how that works too.
Visual instructions like that may be more helpful to the age group you are targeting.
Yeah, I know they have adult supervision for explanations, but it is nice when they can figure it out on their own.

Yes not sure myself now lol.
Managed to find it at #23 in the creative educational section by typing paintpot, maybe I should have kept Colour Splash but I was thinking of the bigger picture with the spelling.

Really though thinking about it, it can't be just the name because if someone was casually looking for it, they wouldn't type Paint Pot because they wouldn't know the title name. They would type something like, kids painting book or childrens apps or kids painting app, that type of thing.
So there must be a way to get your app further up the board by searching these type of things.
I know Amazon store have keywords as I am waiting approval at the minute to publish on there and entered lots of keywords.

Research involved here lol.

Maybe the more typing the better, and your thought about them searching for types instead of titles is interesting.
This could be ongoing at the start until you find the right fit, but the way you have your name in the intro as a separate sprite makes changing it easy.
I guess 'Paint Pad' is probably done to death too.

Thanks for that, feel quite chuffed Hopefully badge coming haha.

Working on lots of pictures now for the paid version and maybe by the time I have drawn them all, there will be some interest in this!

Also now on the Amazon store here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U2O2OAI

although the page pictures have not updated yet, were the pictures slow in updating when you released to the Amazon store?

Never thought of that, will have a think lol !

Hopefully you can help me out with some nice reviews on the Play Store

Cheers.

Not trying to get off topic or anything, but I wanted to share this JAM that is coming up because it offers $1,000,000 in prizes.
I know this is for $199 piece of hardware that isn't compatible with AppGameKit, but for $1,000,000 in prizes, I thought you may be interested.

I will have a look at that but to be honest I don't think I would be able to work quick enough or good enough for that yet!

.... but as the lottery says, you got to be in it to win it! lol

Does anyone know any good, free recording software so I can do a youtube video to upload to the Play Store of the app in action so to speak??

It would be good if this software when recording it doesn't show the mouse so it looks like it is being used on a tablet or something.

I have worked with a lot of recorders back when I was into gaming.
I never found a free one that dosnt have a watermark or halfway decent.

My pictures were uploaded when the app went live.

I was just painting...Some parts on the dog were hard to hit and kept painting the sky. It was frustrating having to go back and find each color I used. Maybe if you had a Paint Color Box with colors in use.

Yes I tried to make the areas on the pictures larger but I couldn't get away with some of the sections like the eyes. There is an oops button though which will go back to last color that the section was. It is really more for large phones and tablets but maybe have another think about that Hope you can give me a good rating though

We will get there eventually if we do.

As you know CrazyProgrammer, fully supported back.

As it stands more than 100 followers on twitter to lots of indie game devs etc, only just started!

Twitter and downloads of the games is much harder!!

I think some of us take the term INDIE too far, and think independent means doing it all alone.
Maybe so, since it means different things to different people.
The point is... we do need to stick together when it comes to promoting all of our work as we battle the AAA Giants.
If we are going to nibble at crumbs under the Giant's table, then we had better band together unless we want to get squashed like a bug.

Quote: "As it stands more than 100 followers on twitter to lots of indie game devs etc, only just started!"

You are doing good.
As long as we re-tweet our stuff we are strengthening our army, and one day might slay one of those Giants. (or at least make off with his chicken or something)

I tried making a FaceBook page for Conjured Entertainment, but it generated some super long web address that I know nobody will type.

Google Play store is coming up with an idea TO DO in order to make my app compatible with tablets which it already is with a screen res of 1280 x 800.
This is what it says:

Design your app for tablets

Your Production APK needs to meet the following criteria:
The minimum Android version and target Android version need to support tablets (check targetSdkVersion and minSdkVersion). Learn more

Any ideas?

I got a message like that too, even though the app tested perfectly on Tablets.
I just said the heck with, because I am not sure if the "Made for Tablets" endorsement is going to be a deal breaker or not.
Do you look for that? I don't.
As long as my apps test out for tablets then I will say for Android devices, which covers phone, tablets, and my 'Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator'.

Seriously though, I think it would be worthwhile to jump thru those hoops to get that endorsement, but I am not spending time on that right now.
For me, the show must go on, so I am going to keep trucking with making more apps and worry about that on my down time.
Maybe it s not a big deal and I shouldn't procrastinate, but I am having too much fun here in phoneland to journey there into the unknown.
Sorry I couldn't help.

Yeah it still works on the tablet with no issues just can't understand what they are trying to say.

My app would benefit from it because really it is for tablets.

Here is what apocolyp4 had to say about "Made For Tablets"....

Quote: "
Using Tier 1 to export you need to select Android version as 3.2 for this to work. The Android 3.X series was tablet only so you need to set your build for 3.2 minimum for the Google Play store to accept your app as "Made for Tablets".

If you still want to make builds that work for the 2.X Android and still have "Made for Tablets" is to create a build for Android 2.3.1. Upload that to the Goggle Play Store. Then create a new build for Android 3.2 with the same version number, but with a higher build number. For example if your Android 2.3.1 build version is 1.0 and build is 1 then create a Android 3.2 build with its version is 1.0 and build is 2 and upload that as well.
"

I thought I did set it to 3.2, but I left it at 2.3.3 ! (you set it for 2.3.3 also)

He gives nice advice on making it work on 2.x and have it "Made for Tablets" doing a second build.

Try it, but thank him not me when it works.

Still at it with the Twitter onslaught to get downloads!!

So far:

Amazon - 17
Google - 25

Total - 42 so not bad for a start.
It is really easy to find on Amazon but Google is hard work.

Install count as of today:

Amazon - 27
Google - 33

Total - 60

Quite pleased so far as the word must be spreading from my twitter posts, takes time but gradually increasing

Amazon is really easy to find the app as it is on the first page when looking at educational apps.
Google is more tricky to get noticed from searching.

Paintpotlite comes up as the only app.
Paintpot now comes up as 12.
Paint Pot search is 158 where before it was 248.
My main goal however has not happened yet which is when searching for "kids colouring book" as at the minute it doesn't make the top 250 and can't find it that way.

Cheers CE for the advice, above post edited

Nice pickup on the tempory part, didn't even notice. I was confused last night with it though because the play store wouldn't let me update and I was going to check today why as I was too tired to bother last night! Saved me a headache and more confusion today!!

cheers.

Download figures are really interesting and from them I don't really rate the Google Play store.

Amazon has double the downloads as Google and most of them in the US with over 100 from but Google has only 11 downloads from the US!

Seems to me Google although has the biggest search engine is not very good at marketing apps on its own store.

Figures really don't add up with Google unless maybe you pay a lot for advertising. Seems Amazon has a more honest approach to this.
