I've just done a search for the phrase "3D Canvas Pro" and Google listed the page for 3D Crafter Pro. In the text under the page title the Google listing showed the text:

Quote: "3D Canvas is a real-time 3D modelling and animation tool that incorporates an intuitive drag-and-drop approach to 3D modelling."

When I visit the page (on this site of course) it has the following text:

Quote: "3DCrafter is a real-time 3D modeling and animation tool that incorporates an intuitive drag-and-drop approach to 3D modeling."

Why is Google doing this? I've noticed this sort of thing before, i.e. that Google searches annoyingly often list pages that don't contain the search phrase used but this is the first time I've actually noticed it changing the text. Anyone know what Google thinks it's doing?

I think google tries to find synonmys and alternatives to what you are searching for if it doesn't find the exact thing. I could be wrong though

I'd rather be told it couldn't find the string I searched for. It usually suggest spelling corrections when you make an error but this present "feature" is very irritating. Is there a way of forcing Google to search for the exact string you want?

Was the name of the product changed? If so it may just be the cache hasn't updated.

It must be something to do with this (taken from Wikipedia):

Quote: "3DCrafter (previously 3D Canvas) is a 3D modelling and animation tool"

I'm sure it is - but I was surprised to see Google displaying text that did not actually appear on the page listed. Very confusing.

No. Certainly putting strings in quotes stops this behaviour but why display text that doesn't appear on the page?

Like I said, it is probably just a result of Google caching web pages for it's search results. You searched for a page that still had the old cache lingering. There are plenty of sites that are like this, have you ever clicked on a search result only to be led to a dead page? It's the same issue.

Actually, all you said was:

Quote: " If so it may just be the cache hasn't updated."

and I assumed you meant the cache used by my browser on my machine.

But, yes, your new explanation makes sense.

Ah, now I see where the confusion was.
