Just popping into this thread here... Next, when do you plan on finalizing the arrangement of the elements at the top of forum pages (boards, threads, etc) like we discussed a while back? Just curious, although the site does still look incomplete with the elements arranged as they are now.

Is anyone responsible for the website checking in here anymore at all? It's been over two weeks since the first of these three posts of mine.

Images are a mess at the moment. I posted a couple that opened up as bytecode.

Also, the site allowed somebody to post an image of Jeff Goldblum in Independence Day without blocking it. The site should have minimum standards.

@BatVink: That was a trailer for the new movie, not a picture. Since when is it breaking any rules to post a video of a trailer? Last I checked it was perfectly legal to share official movie trailers.

Also, didn't TheNext say a while ago that he was going on an extended holiday break and that development would pause until he got back after Christmas? Pretty sure I remember reading that somewhere but I suppose I could be wrong.

Thanks for all your work!

Some small suggestions:

1) When not logged in, the "Login to post a reply" message at the bottom of the thread should contain a link to the log in page
2) Login should be written with a space "log in" when used as a verb. For example: verb "Please log in" and noun "We've had 20 logins today". Same for "log out"
3) A search box in the header would be nice
4) "Back to top" doesn't line up with the pagination buttons next to it

I plan on doing it as soon as I can, finding the time to get back into fixing things has been hard recently. We have a new TGC Website that is being developed at the moment, which as you can imagine is a big job.

Please can you link me directly to where that is, that is a very odd one.

Not officially on holiday but I have been very busy and haven't had any time to continue with the forum yet. Should have time over Christmas to give the forums a bit of TLC.

@kaedroho

Thanks for the feedback, I will ensure I sort those when I next dive into the forum code.

Ah! That makes it all understandable then.

Quote: "Please can you link me directly to where that is, that is a very odd one."
Ah I wish I could; that image was uploaded directly to the site, and I deleted it because of how much space it caused that post to take up. I have since deleted the image from my computer as well. But the image was a very odd resolution, 15x254 (a tall vertical image indeed). It appears as if that resulting black bar may be the same aspect ratio as the small image.

EDIT I attached to this post (via upload to the forum) another blank image of the same resolution, and, at least on my computer, it's doing the same thing here as it did on the other thread. I shall leave it like this for your purposes, hopefully that is okay.

Hahaha nor is mine I figured you were joking. My sarcasm doesn't come across very well here. Oh well. Such is life on the internet!

You know you're a dedicated TGC'er when you spend your Christmas time to look over code!

One thing I want to bring to your attention - EVERYONE is showing up as "Recently Online", which has confused me a great deal. For a while it worked as expected - people who were online (or just recently online) showed up as such, and those who weren't showed up as Offline. But sometime over the last 3 days or so something changed and now - EVERYONE'S ONLINE*.

WOOHOO the "Help" button doesn't float over the top of the Post Reply button any more!! FINALLY. It's now a much more discrete green box stuck to the side of the screen

I just took the time to actually read the "forum redirect" notice thing when going to external websites. Can anyone else spot the two major flaws?

2. Different times (for this one I assume it is a problem of the second being a timer that doesn't count down).

Today, every time I have switched to my Chrome forum tab, the tab is in some unending attempt to reload the page. Interesting occurrence!

In the profile page the time offset gives you nothing to reference it from, so it could be an offset from literally any time zone in the world (although realistically it'd be GMT since TGC is UK-based). It'd be nice for it to show the current server time so you have something to go on.

Attached .png images are still being rendered as text when you try to view them. Example screenshot attached (as a .png! Lol). It is preventing me from downloading the attached media for Phaelex's Pacman example (here).
[EDIT] Interestingly, my .png attachment actually works! You can click and view the attached screenshot of the text, so only certain .pngs are broken. Maybe this is a case sensitive issue? I'll try another post with uppercase extension...

Same image attached now with filename as bad.PnG...
[EDIT] - No, this time it is being treated as a binary download. I think the mime definitions in httpd.conf are messed up on the TGC server.

A possible bug - some code snippets will absolutely refuse to load. It seems to be happening if there's more than 5-8 code snippets on a given page. The issue seems to mostly occur in Chrome and less in Firefox, but can still happen with Firefox, and probably every browser.

Could just be a crappy connection, but spectrepaul was having the same issue, so may be worth looking into!

Here's a possible bug with code snippets. I posted it here: https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/216242

Not sure if this is an oversight but there's no "post count" at the top of the threads, which is a real shame.

[EDIT] Also hitting "upload file" (at least when editing) without having selected a file seems to make it try to upload something (nothing) and just sits there forever, preventing you from uploading any further files.

When is someone going to get around to rearranging the UI elements for this forum and adding features like page numbers? Not to be rude, but discussions about these things (and promises to fix them) have occurred more than a few months ago. New features that don't benefit the forum, like the advertisements that show on the top of the page each day and take up much room, seem to be getting much more attention than legitimate features the forum is asking for. TGC really doesn't care about this particular forum anymore, it seems? I don't mean to be rude or anything (I'm sure theNext is just following orders from above), but I wanted to bring this to light. Nobody seems to care anymore.

There are certain things that get prioritized, such as the big job of developing a new TGC site and admin system and all of the behind the scenes stuff staff need. This leaves little time to work on small fixes, but I do try to fit them in when I can.

What UI elements need rearranging particularly? Also you already have the current page number shown in the top and bottom right of each thread page.

The controls on the top and bottom of each page -- you said a while ago that they were just in placeholder positions and would fix them later.

Quote: "Also you already have the current page number shown in the top and bottom right of each thread page."
Oops, I meant post count number. It's not a crucial feature, but for things like the Posting Competition it's quite handy.

I hope I didn't come across too rude yesterday when I wrote that post -- I was in a particularly irritable mood.

So do I.

The other thing I miss is the ability to se another user's threads. I can often remember that a user posted something of interest on a specific topic - but finding it is now well nigh impossible.

An odd thing happened today. I'd been wondering for a few days why a certain banned user's deleted post/thread was still showing as the latest thread on the Freedom Engine board. I then reported this on the Website board earlier today. When I went back later to check both the Freedom Engine and Website boards I was amazed to find they had both disappeared from the main forum page! Did I imagine all this or have I just woken up in a parallel universe? A few other things seem to have changed too.

The GameGuru forums already have this ability, I will copy it over when I get a moment (probably tomorrow).

Thanks for the report I will fix if I can find the files in a backup

As for the missing boards, some boards have been closed or moved. The program announcements are at the base of the DBP section now.

I have added to the thread pages now.

@BatVink

No it is because you have put the [/href] on the next line not immediately after the text. So the pattern won't match.

The floating HELP system seems pointless. Got a strange response yesterday about a log out issue that's over a month old and apparently there's no way to reply.

UPDATE: I have started looking into the speed issue and found a table that was not indexed and had almost a million rows, it was adding between 0.5 and 3 seconds to the loads time on every page load and causing the server to hang if we had a lot of requests. Should make things better, I will keep looking for more issues.
