For some reason, I set friction for my sprite and it doesn't seem to have friction. I think the reason is because my sprite is not touching the ground because I set the gravity to 0. Does friction require gravity?

Friction works when two surfaces touch, and acceleration due to gravity is part of this equation. If there is no downward force, there is no friction. In zero gravity, your object will simply bounce of the surface.
