This is what I have so far of a platform zombie game.
The idea so far is you collect pumpkins and set free ghosts while avoiding zombies
Ive refrained from the standard shooting zombies theme but I think it needs something
I was also thinking of objects you can push the zombies with or ontop of the zombies

I don't like virtual joysticks so with a bit of math I have it jumping and walking depending on how you select
the stickfigure character which is a swipe movement and using physics to fall to the ground

Any Suggestions greatly appreciated thanks in advance

added 3 new zombies for a total of 6 so far
Fixed a few minor bugs
and changed the level yet again still experimenting
Decided to do away with the huge tree sprites to suit lower end machines

This is what it looks like now showing new zombies the death sequence and change level is same as above

I like the zombies, the platform tiles, and the parallax background looks and animation. The player char seems a bit too plain and movements unnatural. Swipe controls etc sound good but hard to say from video alone. Overall I think good potential just takes some good level design and a bit of fine-tuning.

Looking good! I agree about the player movement, a bit too "floaty" i think. Other than the player i think the gfx look great!
If you give me some hints as to the type of character you would like then maybe i could design one for you.
Are you going to enter this compo?

Thanks
The character isn't quite so floaty using a tablet but it needs work
I have an algorthym that depends on where the pointer is the character moves and animates towards it
The problem is you can hold your finger down and ie the mousepointer and just drag it around screen
that's how most of the demos above were made. Which kinda means the character can fly which isn't
what I want. but refraining from virtual joysticks is hard but I really don't like them

The character movement if you can follow my code works as follows

Not sure I'm happy with the game character either but being black and white means I can easily
change the colours to green for starting level red to death etc but that was really just me playing around

The game character was a royalty free one from the public domain so possible could be modified to suit
The first three zombies were free and the last three I purchased both designed by craftpix

I'm not sure if this is any help to you blinkok but that's the animations I have for it atm it may just need
dressing up a little (frame width 128 frame height 128 frame count 52)

Ideally I was thinking a man in a business suit and a lady which could also be in a business suit
with a sprite sheet for each person and direction

I'm happy to pay you blinkok at a reasonable price
sorry but when I say reasonable converting costs to Australian currency
makes it allot more expensive as our dollar is worth allot less and I'm really
only a hobby programmer on a small income but I do believe people should
be paid.

Apologies that had to be said, I don't really like putting a price on things
but I sell my games for free so far lol haven't really made one that I think would make
a good price as the free ones seem to get so many downloads and there is
so much competition

Added sounds, music, buttons and a bonus meter
The music plays in a loop while there are 5 sounds which if theyre not playing have a small random chance of playing
giving this eary background music

Working on the sprite. Slowly but surely

All good blinkok, I can do a pit of PS or in Gimp nowadays but animations not my thing

I did find the following on SCIRRA https://www.scirra.com/store/2d-game-sprites/real-people-ally-cats-pack-1750
unfortunately it doesn't include a jump animation but well worth the money for those looking for people packs.

@blink0k are you one of these people who can do art and code for their own games? you make me sick, get out, go on and take your freaky talent with you.

@fubarpk regarding feedback as said it looks floaty, is there a reason the characters drops slowly at what appears to be a fixed rate rather than an exponential rate to simulate weight and gravity?

Supertino the character uses gravity but trying to move against the gravity has that effect as I opted for a touch screen style movement
I still may have to go with virtual joysticks yet or atleast configure my routine a bit I might try a timer on the touchscreen basis yet so you
just click in front of the character and the character responds. but still playing with that idea yet, as I posted my code above hoping someone
might have solved the problem better than I, and know of some tweeks I could use. The gravity is currently set to 150, the touch style movement
worked well for my frogger and other games ive made, just I'm trying to work out how I can do that with a platform game, This will also be my first
platform game with any of The Game Creators tools aswell

Thanks for the feedback positive criticism is always welcome

using a Timer based clicking event seems to work much better but as expected you have to keep clicking which is the way I was testing it on an android
tablet but for the videos I used a pc and the flighty controls were useful in testing collisions the code for the movement now looks like.

and without the timer event and changing

helps allot too

Oh no that's awful, hope you didn't lose any files

Last time I had a crash I expected the cloud to help me recover files but sadly it never
as a result I lost much source code and files to previously made AppGameKit programs that
need to be recompiled to meet googles new policies. but such is life I guess

I tried everything and did a fair bit of research so I decided to try Microsofts help desk
and they told me basically if the machine that created the files isn't online you can't
get your files back on another machine. It was the same machine I was trying to access
the files on just a new install. Well anyway to cut the story short had no luck even with
Microsoft externally logging into my system. I also tried recovery methods with no luck
so now have little faith in cloud storage even tho its always uploading the files.

All good I understand just curious how it was going

I found some free sprites which I'm using for the time being

https://craftpix.net/freebies/2d-game-chibi-boy-free-character-sprite-sheet/

these will do for time being maybe have a selection of 3 boy characters and a girl character at the end of each level lol

unless anybody out there has a better suggestion

which does have a matching girl that can be purchased which would make great
for meeting the character at the end

those look good and fit well, i'd keep them
i used the same tileset when testing the grid mode in the new visual editor, works well but the load time on mobile/tablet (from loading in the data from the visual editor) was super long in just a few levels.

Yeh sorry about that will have to make another really didn't think the radio streaming would've recorded with it
I agree with the copyright terms just thought the recording would've been restricted to the window I was recording in.
But that's fraps for you

Still very much playing on level design I decided to do a factory level still nothing to pick up yet
but it looks like this 13 second short video

I might shrink the toxic waste cans and turn them into pickups. any thoughts?

I am having connections issues, so I could only watch the first video, but...

Yeah, that character runs like Fred Flintstone with its arms hanging straight down, and the jump animation is lacking too.

My suggestion would be to make the Zombie AI a little more aggressive once the player is in a certain range.

It looks like the zombies are on fixed waypoints and walk away from the player even when she is on the same platform.

Overall though it is really nice and I especially like your ripple shader effect on the player's death.

My thoughts on the toxic waste cans would not to be a pickup, but rather something to be avoided.

Since toxic waste is not a good thing and probably the cause of the zombie mutations anyway.

Maybe they could make the player sick, causing them to stop and puke (extra animation of course, but....) then the zombies would have a better chance of catching them.

Coding things my way since 1981 -- Currently using AppGameKit V2 Tier 1

I have some construction site tiles from another game if you're interested. They have been used in an earlier game but you're more than welcome to use them seeing as i skipped on the characters.
They are vector so if your aspect or tile size is different just let me know and i'll generate a new set of assets

Gave it a shadowy effect which I may work on yet
which basically consists of a huge black sprite that's depth
is set to just infront of the sprites and background and has
black dithered to alpha in a circle type form.

Hoping it makes it more spooky

if anyone is interested here is the link to the shadowy sprite I used I wont embed the pic as its too pig so il just provide the link
http://users.tpg.com.au/subarpk/blackCircle.png
but this was the quickest way I thought of for getting a 2d lighting for all machines as shaders don't work so fast real time especially
if you have to keep grabbing the image in real time.

and thanks to blinkOk I now have 7 levels all with a total different tileset
