Tried a few times to download but it just hangs the browser. Video downloads but you are using a codec I don't have installed so I only get the sound!

First time I tried you had message on website saying download was not possible because of server problems. I see this has now been removed but I still can't download game.

Game looks good on the screenshots anyway!

Boo!

When I try to download the game, it says "Cannot download from fire.prohosting.com - The password was not allowed"

But the screenshots look impressive. I love the lens flare!

Hi kendor,

I used to use Prohosting so I know how dodgy their FTP service is.

If you want, I can rehost the file for you (d/l from your FTP now by the way).

Hi kendor,

Initial thoughts:

Good
- Like the music
- The menus are highly polished
- The Game feels complete & finished
- Tons of levels

Problems
- Turning speed is FAR too slow, it seems OKish when you are not accelerating, but the moment you put the pedal to the metal, you can hardly turn at all
- The speed of the bikes in general is far too slow
- The way that you rebound when bouncing off walls is a bit irritating
- Often you cannot see where you are going when you get to corners, because the camera is facing the player sideways. An option to have the camera always behind the player and facing the same direction as the player would be a very good idea.

@Jimmy
What?

@Rob K

Thanks for your thoughts
I would be very gratefull, if you can rehost it!

On your comments:

The music were done by my brother, and I agree, they are nice
Menu: took about 2 weeks of work, to finish

On the turning: It was meant to be that way.
As a safety rule, you don't accelerate when you steer, or else

For the speed: try reducing the resolution
For the cameras: I'll try to change that!

Thanks all!

[edited] If you don't like the collision with walls, you can disable it: main menu -> options -> game and uncheck collsion with walls.

Thanks Rob K for your compliments about the music used in AlienGP. It took me quite a long time to compose them!!

It isn't a slow FPS issue, I can tell when something is slow because of low FPS and when it is slow because that is how it was supposed to be. I have a Radeon 9700Pro here as well.

Anyhoo, I have rehosted the file for you:

You can go a little bit faster if you put
the difficulty level to Easy

Hi, all

Here's an update for the game:

It contains:

- An error fix when restarting
- Add 2 new cameras (6 & 7)
- Increased speed of bikes

Those who already downloaded the game, can download this "patch" , (just unrar in the aliengp folder)

http://kennethbugeja.dbpcommunity.com/AlienGP_p1.rar

Otherwise you can download the new version of the game from:

http://aliengp.netfirms.com/download.htm

Hope you enjoy!

@Rob K: You wanted something like camera 6, right?

Downloaded new version but can't start game! Menus and initial presentation are top notch. When I start a game, get as far as bike appearing on track and camera swings into view. All the camera keys work but just can't move! Should I be able to accelerate straight away or should there be a 3-2-1-go type of thingy.

thanks

well..
Before you start there should be a countdown 3-2-1-go and then start.

Some questions:

1. Is it a specific track or all tracks behave like that?

2. Have you tried the old version? as the changes made, are not
connected with the start procedure.

3. Are you running at default settings?

@everybody: Is this happening to anyone else?

Sorry kendor, my fault! Have updated my laptop to latest graphics driver (ATI Catalyst 3.10) and now everything runs properly (and a hell of a lot faster). Getting late now - will give game a full test during Monday.

I really like it, you've done all the tracks extremely well and the sounds and handling is good, although the collision with the barriers is a bit sudden, it could be smoothed out. Also I think it would be better to have space as accelerate, not forward, then you can have fingers on all the buttons and not have to switch between the accelerate and brake with your middle finger.

I think that you should be able to select the number of laps on quick race (3-20 or something), as 10 may be a bit too much for some people (i.e. me ). Also I encountered a bug when I crashed into the barrier one time, it didn't fade out and fade in again like usual, it froze for a moment and then said "Object not found at line xxxx" and quit.

Good game otherwise.

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?

Really nice! Menus are really nice. Music is great. Loadsa levels which is great. Like the nice touches on each level, like going underwater or snow falling.

Collisions with walls are terrible - you bounce off at stupid angles.

Sometimes when crashing out of track you restart pointing on wrong direction.

A few times when starting tournament game, loading screen is white screen instead of level image and then crashes with object not found line 855.

Good luck in compo.

Thanks to both!

@ Hamish McHaggis:

You can actually change the number of laps:
main menu => Options => Game
You can set it just to 1 lap and then go up to 99 laps

@ Spooky:

The white screen instead if the level screen happened once,
and taught it was not an error I'll investigate

@ both

well, the collision with walls is not the best, thats why I included
the option to disable it, right?

And thanks again!

Still it'd be more user friendly if you could change it on the track selecting screen.
