Has anybody had any success using AppGameKit to communicate with server/database io, if so could you please describe the process in which it operates for you and wether or not it is practical for high traffic data transfers?

You can have a php listener script as a middle-man between your app and your database. I use this setup for saving high-scores and play-time metrics etc.

Napland Games have some guides on how to do this:

I'm using AppGameKit to build a client for a MMO; I use websockets to connect to custom servers which does the brunt of the work.
