Blue tooth support for peer to peer networking on android devices?

Are there an update or a plan to support this function?

You could just pair the 2 devices in the bluetooth menu and then tether one to the other so that the standard network connection functions (Sockets and UDP) would work via the bluetooth connection.

Not to mention you can also do it via a local wifi tethering too which has a higher bandwidth then the bluettoth connection typically.
