I hate to seem like the crazy old man but ... why would I wanna use some app instead of the forums? It seems like the type of thing that would lead to information being more spread out and our community is already rather small.

Just my thoughts

because sometimes it takes time for ppl to answer...
and mostly we talk here about code while neglecting most of the game development... which is much wider than code only...

and you know... to talk... maybe a connection or 2 will make some change...

Already spoke with some ppl here on Whatsapp and Email... the communication is much better than the forum. any forum actually...
Forums are old, instant messaging that is the new deal.

Forums maybe be old but they are searchable. When I have encountered problems with AGK2, even Google searches bring me back here. With instant messaging, you lose that.

Unfortunately we don’t have a very large footprint and there isn’t the knowledge resources of one of the big engines that start with “U”.

But, I do agree that they are, like me, old. Maybe instant messages are the best thing for AGKS. I just don’t know what would replace the thing that forums are good for ... an archive of information.

I am not saying to disband the forum... but to improve our communication...
maybe like you have a small question in the WhatsApp group we can answer immediately where on the forum you will have to wait for someone to answer...
This is not for disbanding the forum. please be advised this is still the best place for AppGameKit solutions.

What about the users in other countries who don't have access to whatsapp.
I'm currently in China for the past 3 years on contract, and here we use wechat, no access to whatsapp

The problem with the AppGameKit Discord is that they don't seem to promote it so you only find it in random posts like this. Imagine how popular the server would be if it was added to the AppGameKit Studio help drop down menu. Such a simple addition that would increase the numbers substantially.

I like DIscord. Every developer COmmunity has it's own Discord Channel ! Pico 8 , GDevelop, PixelVision 8, VOxatron, Godot Game Engine and many more ! An App GameKIt Studio Discord Channel would be awesome.

@ haliop_New: There are forums covering other aspects, lower sections on the main forum front. But a "chit chat" section on these boards could be good for socialising.

I'd much rather have the forum be the main communication hub. You can't google search answers from Whatsapp or discord.

Game Maker Community now has a discord community and it's forum is now deserted...

Got to say I'm a forum fan, for the reasons already stated.
I'm a member of a car forum, which was thriving. With sections for various related subjects including engine swaps. Then one day the engine swap enthusiasts decided that they would use Facebook, and now that forum section is abandoned, and all the information very hard to find.

But my experience is that people don't want to duplicate effort and post/discuss in multiple places so if all the experienced people went and discussed stuff somewhere else the forum would naturally die, at least in one area.
I don't see how spreading information across numerous places is an improvement.

I couldn't agree more!
I can see no benefit of having multiple sources of information but many down-sides to it.

I personally like TGC being on slack, but it seems the slack community has faded. I agree with everything that has been stated. Its not a good idea to spread out the community.
If I remember right TGC use to have chat rooms on the front page website 14 years ago. Lets bring back the old-school AOL chat rooms for TGC forums. (Points @ Next)

I doubt there will ever be an official WhatsApp group, we already have the forums and a Discord server as well. WhatsApp would just be a duplicate to the role Discord already fills and does better at the same time.

We also don't really focus on Discord as although it has good features it is lacking in a few ways. It isn't searchable via search engines which is a powerful tool for discovery for all users new and old, it isn't totally under TGCs control, what do we do if Discord fades away in a few years and all the years of community contribution are lost. Also ever person has a web browser (and can access the forums) not everyone has discord knows what it is or wants to download another app.

I have yet to have seen anything that can reliably replace the role of a good forum, there may be improvements that could be made to the TGC forum but it has worked well for years and is a wonderful reliable resource.

Discord is meant to fill that chat room role the old AOL system is definitely dead now

hmm point taken.
well, how about a 3rd plugin above the Forum layout on the Forum site?
like Chat bubbles that do not interfere with the forums at all, just gets who is online and enable us to speak in real time maybe even on forum posts.
I think that is the best solution.
so you will get


The forums. as is. Which are searchable and everything,
The Chat above the layout of the forum on the forum site. so we will get Chat and Forum at the same place.

yeah, I have deleted facebook and Instagram I just wait for more of my friends to move on to Telegram (which is probably the safest to date) until I'll remove Whatsapp.
