AppGameKit Classic Chat / .3ds animation goes wonky

I have a .3ds format animation. It is a robot making a slash action for close combat.
What it does is draw it's arm across it's body and then swings it in an arc to slash.
In my 3d proggy it all looks fine but in AppGameKit the slash motion looks like it is being translated around the wrong axis.
I have cut down the robot to show the issue as simply as possible

The animation won't import into Blender, but I think I see where the problem is.

Your slash animation(frame 27-29) includes your fire animation(frame 26).

I removed all other animations. Still the same problem. See attached project

I have cut this down to it's absolute minimum. It appears that it is rotating the object around it's local y-axis rather than the global y-axis. Project is attached
