When I try to apply a texture to a model it just doesn't work I just have a blank model . However when creating a cube or cone or sphere it does work . Also when using the 3d asset pack from TGC the models from that also work fine . For some reason It will not let me apply a texture to my own models . Can anybody throw some light on this . Thanks for reading .

not much info to go on
but just a thought if theyre animated models with children
you have to apply the texture to each child

I managed to get it working with blender but unfortunately not with wings 3d . Guess i'll have to get used to blender . Thanks for your time . I believe it was something to do with uv coordinates.

you could try lithunwrap that's free and texture maps and creates textures in like a 5 minute process
the out put texture is a wireframe bmp that you can then load into a paint proggy and paint

Thanks Fubarpk I'll take a look .
Well I tried the lithunwrap app and it all worked out great . Here is a pic of my first model with it's texture . Very simple but I'm heading in the right direction .
