Hi all, I'm working on this little space shooter game. The AI is not done yet so the enemies are pretty easy for getting in some target practice.
The laser, missiles and targeting system are done.
If the target is about 3.5 (kms) or less then the missiles can't miss.

The objective will be to escort the shuttle to safety while some NPCs will try to ruin your day.
I'm not sure yet if this will grow to something bigger where this is only one mission among others.

I just have to finish some things on the display and replace some place holders before I start to get in to the AI.
Designing the AI is my main reason for doing this project.

Comments and advice welcome.
Cheers.

i was going to ask for a short vid of the particles in action and then realized you'd attached a demo

the controls are a bit strange to me. mainly the use of the mousewheel for speed which i'd rather have on the keyboard. wheel could = weapon selection and RMB = target selection.
maybe just provide configurable controls and/or, joystick/gamepad controls would fit this well.

otherwise, good fun! i especially appreciate the target camera and the (group?) of enemies, complete with humming engine sounds sailing by.

meanwhile, i appreciate your recent interest in 3d space projects and the effects you've included. perhaps you could put together a basic game template for the genre some day? we haven't seen a lot of 3d "How To" advice.

thanks for sharing!

ps: how do we get screenshots from agk fullscreen games? my attempt produced a white rectangle with a smaller black-filled rectangle in the lower left (presumably the viewport without any details). did you use GetImage() for yours?

G'day Virtual Nomad and thanks for your comments, advice and taking the time to check it out.

With the controls, it's a good idea to make them configurable so that is added to the list.

Regarding a 3D space game template, I'll start a side project and add some features (with lots of comments) to help people get started.
I do like 2D but 3D first person has always been my favourite.

My win 8 lappy does screenshots as you described but my win 7 print screen button works well every time. We'll take a look at making some print screen code.
Cheers.

PS, glad you had some fun blowing things up, it's kind of addictive.

This is looking awesome ando! I could play just this demo for hours, it's good target practice! (Besides, once they have AI how am I ever going to be able to hit them )
