Well, I've just finished a little demo of my new game.
It's similar to Sokaban.

You are the white cube.
The goal is to get all the purple cubes in a portal.

CONTROLS
Arrow Keys - Movement
Space - Stick cubes to you
Control - Unstick cubes that are stuck to you

Just two levels at the moment, but I can make them in paint so production will be quick now.

Get it from my sig (700kb).
Enjoy.

Coming soon...

Here's a screenshot. As you can see, it's (kind of) cell-shaded:

Here's a shot of the title screen.
I am very proud of it.

It is possible, just hard.

These are the moves to beat the first level:

Easy, eh?

I think some people will like it and some will hate it.
In the full version:
- Multiplayer (Two white cubes that need to work together)
- Bigger levels
- Multi-story levels (you need to lift you teammate to the next level)
- Timer/Time Limit
- Difficulty Levels (Easy - complete an easy set of levels, Medium - complete some easy and some hard levels against the clock, Hard - Beat the hardest levels in a certain time and in a certain number of moves)

Nice! I like puzzle games. Got through both levels really quickly.

There is a problem on level 2 if you try and pick up both purple blocks at once. One of the blocks gets confused and rotates incorrectly.

Boo!

OK... I'll try and fix that spooky. I thought I'd fixed it already. The main bug is that it doesn't update the position of the purple cubes, so you can go through them after you have moved them, but can't go through their starting position

Feel free to make you own levels, at the moment they have to be 5x5

Woohoo! My sigs are working.

its a great concept but it had some 'problems' on my computer:

my specs are
a p4 2.8ghz w/ 2gb ddr ram 80 gb hd, and GeForce 4 w/ most recent drivers

what happens is the white cube can go through the purple cube alot of the time, then the purple cube can go throught the gray 'walls' alot of the time aswell! v. strange this can lead to some cases where the only thing that can be done is to reset it then one time (very strange) one of the cubes just disapeared and went inside the wite cube, there was no way to fix it but it should be a fun game if you can get out think chinks

Yeah, there are a few bugs, I've fixed a lot of them (most of them involved adding a minus sign). New version coming soon. I only just discovered functions so progress is a lot faster and easier on this than Alien Rampage.

The simple concept and graphics of Cubes should mean that I can make it look really proessional. I mean, an untextured cube looks the same in DBC as it does in HL2

Nice. Once you get the hang of it they're quite easy. Finished them fairly quickly after which I got a "runtime error", a nice "Demo complete" would have been more rewarding.

Keep up the good work. I'd also like to know how the untextured cube looks like HL2

Basically, an untextured cube looks the same on the DBC engine as it does on the HL2 engine. There's only so much you can do with a cube.

The runtime error is because it looks for any more levels that have been made, so you can make your own. I couldn't be bothered to do a "if file exists()" or whatever so it just crashed when it runs out of level bmps

I sort of forgot of this project. I'll finish it off now.

Cell-shading is done by having a negatively sized shape in the same place. I made a simple function:

That, combined with makeportal() and makelevel() mean I don't code it anymore, I just draw a bitmap.

It's pretty cool but:

- I got a program error after beating the second (and last) level.

- If you are inside of a purple cube and press Space, it messes up.

- You cannot move a purple cube back to its original spot.

- If you are bordering two purple cubes and press space, one seems to go through the ground and doesn't come off when you press Control.

- You can go through cubes (Already stated).

- You can sometimes go through walls (Already stated).

Otherwise great job!

Chris-

This game is a really nice start... but there haven't been any bug fixes/updates in a LONG time... are you still working on the game, or have to gotten distracted with something else?

I feel like you could finish up this game in an evening if you wanted to!

Yeah... I just gave up on it. Does anyone want the source code? They could finish it - everything is in functions and it should take too long to figure out what's going on. The main thing to understand is that all the cubes are actually pointing upwards the whole time - this is so the xrotate doesn't screw up.

I'll explain anything you don't understand.

I would welcome the source code I can probably at least make it so it won't crash and properly exit after level 2, maybe make new levels and revamp the first 2 to make it a progression of difficulty for each new level. Also I might be able to add some sound effects for cube movement and level completion. The bugs that I might have a tough time with:

Quote: "- If you are inside of a purple cube and press Space, it messes up.

- You cannot move a purple cube back to its original spot.

- If you are bordering two purple cubes and press space, one seems to go through the ground and doesn't come off when you press Control.

Other than that, I'd be happy to take a crack at it.
