Does anyone know if a standard iOS app will work for Apple TV (tvOS?)

I found some old posts of people being able to get things working on Apple TV, but not how they did it (2015)
Also, I assume the SWIPE motions on the siri remote come through as pointer moves, etc

If anyone can point us in the right direction it will be much appreciated.
