TGC has announced the forum is closing Feb 10 2025.
https://www.thegamecreators.com/post/tgc-account-system-retirement

It's believed at this time that the forums will remain available in read only mode for some time.
This means we don't know how long they will remain available, if at all.
Nobody will be able to download attachments, because that requires a login.
https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/229800#msg2678696

Where the community will continue:
I have setup a subreddit, with downloadable resources, addons, etc:
https://old.reddit.com/r/DarkBasicDev/
Everyone is welcome! All products!

SyntaxBomb has an active forum for AppGameKit:
https://www.syntaxbomb.com/appgamekit-agk/

TGC is running a Discord Server for AppGameKit:
https://discord.gg/bAKbpPUz2E

TGC is running a Discord Server for GameGuruMax:
https://discord.gg/uzPn6CFcCr

Unofficial Forum for all products TGC, forum setup by Teabone:
https://gamedevresort.freeforums.net/

Game Guru Classic Discord Server:
https://discord.com/invite/xnTAbBR

Call To Action - Help Wanted!
It is important that we gather up every plugin, every download we can before they become lost forever.
This includes files for other products like FPSC, DarkGDK, AppGameKit, Everything.

The subreddit has Dark Basic Professional files posted. I did my best but I don't have Multi-Joy (the creator's website went dark and there was never a mirror). Also BlueGUI I have not found a copy of that. There could be more.

I don't have knowledge of the other TGC products and I'll need help finding and posting files worth preserving on the subreddit.

We need to make sure we can find each other after this and that we keep resources available!
Please help!

Update - Jan 27 2025
A partial backup of the forum now exists, and is posted to the subreddit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkBasicDev/comments/1ij4nsc/tgc_forum_backups_appgamekit_darkbasic_more/
The threads can now be searched and recalled offline.
Please spread this far and wide!

Update Feb 9 2025
Useful addons and plugins are now hosted and linked on the subreddit with some mirrors!

Special Thanks to those that helped and continue to help!
Phaelax
bitJericho

Teabone
James H

And everyone else.

Final Update:
Thanks everyone! May we continue to be a community. Please reach out on the subreddit any time.
There are a few forum options such as Teabone's forum or maybe Syntax Bomb will open up space.
At least the subreddit is there to link things together and offer helpful, findable resources!

It has been an amazing 20+ years. It is sad to see an era end.
I guess we won't be getting that DBP patch we always were asking about!

Thank you so much and may the best be yet to come!
Good Luck!

Oh that SUCKS. I mean, I get it, very very few forums are still around, but still... it majorly sucks to lose all this. Discords or subreddits just dont work NEARLY as well as actual forums for this kind of stuff. I wonder if it would be possible to get TCG to make some kind of archive available so people can preserve the forum as-is, kind of like how you can download an archive of the entirety of wikipedia.

I have a copy of multijoy, but the creator IS still actively selling it. Its a different website from whats linked in their profile/the multijoy thread, but you CAN still buy it.

https://cmcgames.blogspot.com/2008/12/multijoy-plugin-for-darkbasic.htI

I bought it back in November and the creator emailed me a zip of the plugin the very next day.

An idea. A simple solution for an active forum for DarkBASIC Pro and DarkBASIC Classic.

Qube is friendly. Asking Qube to set up a 'DarkBASIC Pro/ DarkBASIC Classic' sub-forum at SyntaxBomb is a viable solution. In fact, the official forums of BlitzMax NG and SmallBASIC are at SyntaxBomb:

already made backups of my products. forums died a long time ago. all the best to all. signed (BOTR-Bored of the Rings). been under TheWanted for ages, don't think being banned a second time will make any difference now.
TGC will probably archive. see ya

Made a quick alternative forum if people are interested. I'm sure many more members are doing the same.

https://gamedevresort.freeforums.net/

Also if people are still using Game Guru Classic, the discord link is here:

https://discord.com/invite/xnTAbBR

I used to manage the GGC Discord, but have since handed it over entirely to TGC. I've left the Discord myself for unrelated reasons.

Thanks huge! I will go through all of that and curate/rehost as much of that as I can in a few days.

Right now and for the past week I have been completely swamped creating a backup of the forum.
Automation to download, sort and index everything has been running day and night.
Computer is completely overloaded.

A partial backup of the forum is now posted to the subreddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkBasicDev/comments/1ibi39q/tgc_forum_backups/

I will attempt to finish a smaller backup without images within a few days.

Thanks for the reply.
Blue GUI actually went open source and I was able to find their Github page with a compiled copy of the plugin.
https://github.com/robertknight/dbpro-bluegui

Multijoy is apparently still a paid plugin, likely to stay that way forever. So there are ethical issues archiving and distributing it.
Such a shame!

If absolutely nothing else, we could add the address where multijoy can be bought to the archives. Especially since, with the forums going down, its unlikely anyone would ever find it again otherwise.

Hi guys! It was quite a big surprise for me that forums are going to be shut down.
Don't panic! I think we should move to reddit - it has pretty huge audience and maybe someone new will know about DBPro language.
Most of the stuff I've already uploaded to my site - check James H's message
I don't have stuff which i didn't bought (obviously) and some exotic plugins which I found not necessary.
So newcomers will go to reddit and some of old school folks will be there to help with advices.
What do you think?

Can't believe this is happening, it sucks, it seems that TGC will not have a place for everyone that still uses dbPro or FPSC to post something . Bad timing for me, I wanted to make a new wip thread, I am about to complete one of my games and I needed some feedback.
I want to thank everyone that helps the community to continue existing somewhere else.
May I just suggest one thing, we should continue the forum in 1 place only, not use multiple places, we will be lost I believe if we use many different sites, although I fully appreciate everyone's effort to help the community live. For example Teabone's alternative forum looks like a good place to continue from here, it seems already well setup.

Mage already made a subreddit, its included in the original post of this thread. I agree reddit is probably our best place to go.

Definitely agree we need to settle on one place and stick to that. While I do like the idea of an oldschool forum, I feel like reddit may be better given the circumstances. Most people here probably already have a reddit account but may not want to start up with a new site they dont know. Going with that forum also kind of puts things on a single point of failure, whereas Reddit probably isnt going anywhere anytime soon.

just checked the capture and it does seem to contain personal user data which is baked into the panel bellow each post..

Simple enough to remove that run through all the pages and cut out the links around the mail to: and rip em. Tends to only be a few on each page, but well worth it.

@Kevin Picone
No he wants written permission from each person who ever posted to the forums before any kind of backup of publicly available posts could be moved. Which must then mean that written permission would need to be given if it were moved again after that.

I wrote software to strike the email website, and steam buttons from posts but didn't use it since there's still an outcry outstanding concerning the issue. It wouldn't meet the standard being requested.

@Kuper The collection I have been curating the last few days. A lot of plugins were just little more than DLL files in zip files. Basically someone coming across them would have no idea what they were or how to use them. So I repacked them with documentation. I can't understand how someone could make a fabulous plugin and screw up skipping the simple step of adding documentation. So you may need a second look at those plugins as I may have updated the files since you checked. I also need to still go in and repack the shader bundles, then check your website and evolved's for anything you got that I missed so that we have multiple mirrors. Thanks again for the help!

Just read over the other thread in the AppGameKit section of the forum. My two cents is this: He's not a lawyer, and he appears to be giving you advice on this topic that is only relevant to a totally different topic. I would just respectfully ignore him and do what you need to do. Thats what I would do if I were the one archiving all this. (sadly i lack the skill to do so, or I would be doing so myself to try and help out with things.) He isnt a lawyer, and even if he was... is anyone actually gonna sue over this? Like realistically. Sure they ***technically*** could, but is anyone gonna really actually DO so? obviously not. What would be their damages? What would they be suing you FOR? Realistically, the worst case scenario of what might actually happen in real life, is someone submits a request to have their personal info deleted. Nobody is going through the trouble and expense of a lawsuit over some 20+ year old user name data on a game dev forum.

If you get any actual legal requests or cease and desist letters or anything of that nature, then yeah definitely comply. But until then... I would honestly just keep on truckin.

Obviously its one thing to say this when youre not the one doing it, and another thing to be the one doing the work. Ultimately, its your call and if you dont wanna go through with it I 100% respect that. But those are my thoughts on the subject.

I noticed the rules of EU law being mentioned as though they are behind the basis of the "advice"? I could have sworn that the servers where located in the US and TGC is registered in Wales(UK) which is no longer part of the EU. Bit baffling. In any case as was just pointed out you could just wait for instruction to remove it - or just ask TGC?

Honestly I wouldnt even ask TCG, as their answer is going to inherently be in their own private best interest, which is not necessarily the same as the best interest of the community. I would just do it. I feel like the fact that its all publicly available info kind of defeats any other argument. As long as youre not, like... hacking into places youre not supposed to be, or accessing info that you need special authority to access, or anything of that nature, you really *cant* be breaking any rules. Like if you were to go through and just grab a screenshot of every forum thread, obviously theres no rules or laws against that. And since the same information is contained in the copy you make either way... I would honestly say just ignore the nay sayers. Unless youre somehow accessing info that isnt available to the public, anyone who says youre breaking the law is just flat out wrong.

Long time lurker here. Hi! (wave)

Super bummed about the news. I just had a hard drive crash and popped on the forums to find the files I needed and saw that TGC forums were going to be shut down.
I hope the wealth of knowledge here will remain as an archive. Internet Archive isn't good enough.
I enjoyed reading the forums and trying out software others made. I don't use Discord much and when I did, it was only a handful of times during the pandemic. I'm mostly on Reddit. I'll check out the forums listed tho.

Take care, all.

I'll put the backups back up today or tomorrow, but we're being friendly and addressing concerns that were raised.
So the email, website, and steam buttons along with some other kinds of links are being stripped out with automation.
These are part of the public profile some users chose to attach to each of their posts.

That information was chosen by each user to be displayed publicly. But I suppose there is one issue that could arise that I didn't consider after speaking with Mage last night, and that's by leaving it baked into the backup we potentially remove one's ability to change or remove it if they so want to. Removing that is no problem and it's not needed to preserve the information and integrity that we want out of each post.

The forum backups are now back online on the subreddit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkBasicDev/comments/1ij4nsc/tgc_forum_backups_appgamekit_darkbasic_more/?

The profile, email, website, and steam button links that were attached to posts as part of people's public profiles are stripped out, along with a few other types of links.

Also: Newsletters are now added to the backups!
Problem: Newsletters 112 and 113 are not online anymore. I could not include them.

I forgot about those. I actually mirrored them a long time ago, saved as PDFs. https://zimnox.com/dbcc/?page=newsletters
There was a reason I did this, but I can't recall what that was anymore. I think some folks requested PDF versions of the newsletters so I took it upon myself to do so.
It's weird they only show 1-59 on the site now.

Well this is a sad, if perhaps not entirely unexpected, turnout. And I who was looking forward to finally getting my platinum "20 years of service" badge later this year....
I believe this is the last proper old-fashioned forum I'll see go after having been a member; the previous one (that was coincidentally also the very first one I ever joined back in 2002 or 2003) shut down already back in 2021.
It's probably mainly nostalgia talking but I definitely prefer these asynchronous online interactions to the modern Discord and similar shenanigans where everything has to be more or less live conversations or nobody is going to know what you're going on about, is virtually unsearchable more than a couple of days into the past and may even be automatically deleted after a couple of months.

Well anyway, I just thought I'd pop in to say I've had some great times on these forums over the years (though granted those times are already almost a decade in the past...) and to wish anyone who may still read this the best in their individual future endeavours!

Edit: Oh yeah, and a big thanks to Mage for the effort of trying to back the vast amounts of information stored here up for the future!
I hope TGC will leave the forums in a reasonably available archived form for such purposes but indeed one can never be too sure how long that will stay up (or if things like attachments will be properly available when no longer able to sign in etc.).

Enhancement: Updated the DBP forum backup to include the extra pages, on multi paged threads.
Might try to give FPSC the same treatment.

Thanks for saving TGC Newsletters! Some of then had pretty good tutorials.
By the way, if you mind to backup any licensed plugins don't forget to backup "certificates" folder also, original compiler will need it.

Newsletters are packed in their own section along with the forum newsletter commentary.
Thanks for the tip about certificates. I had assumed that was all included with the backed up addons. However to make doubly sure I had a huge list of certificates and added them to the addon archive linked on the subreddit.

Goodbye to the TGC forum and everyone in it. It's been a few years since I frequented this place but I am still sad to see it go. Thank you for your efforts Mage.

Long time no see guys, I just dropped by the DBPro forum, just for nostalgia really, and saw this - just in time I guess!
Thank you all for all the fun and advice and everything over the years. I was about 11 when I found DBPro, and I'm almost in my thirties now :*
These forums have so many special memories for me, and it's super poignant to see everyone gather here for one last goodbye. I recognise all of you from posts over the years and the various projects you worked on - and you're all amazing ^-^
I still like to imagine in some alternate universe not too far from this one, Darkbasic Elite was made, and our coding adventures carried on happily ever after :')
Wish you all the absolute best for the future
I'd like to say mo e but the forums are goi wait what
? I was J st sayin I want to s y more but I t I k

So am I crazy or is it currently February 11th (at least where Im at) and the forums are still up and working, despite the fact they were supposed to close on the 10th? (EDIT: according to the forums themselves, its actually Feb 12th, server time, as of the time I posted this, so thats even further past the supposed shut down date.)

Is this the part where we find out it was all a big prank by TCG to make people feel super nostalgic and bring people back here? And theyre actually not shutting them down at all?

(Please please please let that be it)

Yes! The forum shutdown was all a big ruse right?
And TGC are about to announce a new version of DB Pro: DarkBasic Super-Duper Professional or AppGameKitNT

The new version will rival Unity for ease of use and Unreal engine for features! Make it so Lee and Rick!! ... (please?)

TheGameCreators Account System Update

Posted on Tuesday, 11th February 2025 3:15 AM in TGC News, GameGuru Classic News, AppGameKit News, GameGuru MAX News,

As announced last month the closure of TheGameCreators account system will be commencing from today, although this may take a few weeks to fully complete.

If you already have an account it will still be possible to log in as normal, but this will cease at some point in late February. For anyone who still wishes to download any files, archive older orders or retreive unclaimed Steam Keys from your TGC account, we urge you to do so now, as this will not be possible once the shutdown is completed.

If you have forgotten your password, please raise a support ticket HERE and we will help you regain access for this purpose.

There has been some concern over the fate of the old TGC forums. We would like to clarify the situation by stating that the forums will remain available for viewing but will transition to a read-only state, so it will not be possible to create new posts. The forums will remain for reference purposes given that they contain 15+ years of knowledge, discussion and history, but any attatchments will no longer be available.

The Discords servers for both GameGuruMAX and AppGameKit Studio can be found in the links below and we hope that they will be able to embody the spirit of the respective communities for many years to come.

We think we got all of the forum pages backed up. Phaelax is working on getting codebase entries backed up as these were buried behind a javascript interface.

I have been updating the Forum backups every few days with added content, extra pages.
Initially it was just the first page of each thread 99% of the forum.
Later today I should have probably a final update with all forum pages.
These are posted to the subreddit.

The backups are functional, the indexing isn't pretty but can be searched.
Phaelax is working on a nicer solution to that.

File Backups:
I've tried to backup all important files, naturally countless lesser things are going to be missed, and possibly some important things.
So if you notice something isn't included with backups you'd be helping by letting people know.

Also of note, FPSC X10. We didn't end up finding a backup for this.
I don't know the history behind this product but it almost looks like it failed to replace FPSC as interest in it appears to have died off where FPSC continued on.

Just putting it out there that I've built my own a partial backup & viewer (in php) a few weeks back. Was originally trying to locate stuff hidden deep away in the boards. Just adding a basic search to the threads alone makes the world of difference. Adding some controls makes it so much easier.. but anyway

Was building a local global search from post data seems pretty straight forward. Just going to build an inverted lookup (words mapping to message id's). The current parser imports and decodes posts and attempts to convert them back the boards original markup. So viewing it can be displayed in a simpler theme. Got a few ideas for that..
