Fascinating... I wonder if they leaked it on purpose or not... after all, given it's an MMO, even with sandbox hacks the play will be very limited; they're not losing much.

Of course it's real... Blizzard just about confirmed it with their screenshot covers ups and it's all over the web. Multiple p2p clients as well as IRC. Do a bit of research

nope, the leak isn't real.
funny thing is even if it were real, why the hell would someone steal an alpha of something that has been in beta testing for almost 4months now and is prepping to go gold? hahaa

Quote: "--December 22, 2003--
World of Warcraft Beta -- Update
Over the past few weeks, it has become apparent that the World of Warcraft beta will not be available within the fourth quarter of 2003. The development team is currently hard at work testing the alpha version of the game, and we look forward to bringing you an outstanding beta in early 2004.
Our goal is to always make the best games possible, and a critical part of the development process includes the public beta test. This means that we will not release the final product or any other component of the game until it's ready. Rather than release an inferior candidate to meet a specific date, we have chosen to further test World of Warcraft internally until we feel the game will allow for a productive beta test.

Announcements concerning the beta test, along with additional details about the game, will be released in the near future. We encourage you to check this official Web site for further updates. Thank you for your continued support and patience.
"

Raven, if the public beta hasn't even been started, and the Alpha testing ain't done, HOW THE LIVING F*CK CAN IT GO GOLD.

(wipes the spit of his moniter)

If your gonna say somthing like that, Research, and please for f*cks sake, Stop pulling sh*t outta your ass. It's gotta hurt after a while don't it? I mean Jesus F*cking Christ, this one is right on the WOW website, but yet you make some BS.

God you piss me off sometimes,

Oh and have a nice day

Eric do you believe that people will be expecting a game suchas WoW to become a large public beta... as alot of recent MMORPGs have been?
Taking this in context would you also believe that in your opinion it would be safe to assume that if a game like this was to forego say a public beta, that the fans might be a bit miffed at not getting a chance to test it out before it is released?

i'd suggest never to take anyone a company releases PR wise as gold.
This release was put out just before christmas; the first reports of the original Alpha Leak were a week prior to christmas.

yeah well i'll leave you to put two and two together

Raven, you obviously know absolutely nothing about this. Can you stop your lying for once? I can personally vouch for the authenticity of this news article, for anyone here who trusts me. And if you do five minutes of looking around with Google you'll find that it's real.

There have been videos released and if you look hard enough you can find the genuine thing. Furthermore, many people have had their CD-Keys banned for simply MENTIONING this on Blizzard forums, and sites which put up screenshots of the alpha are being taken down by the dozen.

WoW has an amazing similarity to WC3 ... there is a reason for this; you figure out why. Mocking up videos would take a Mod developer all of a few hours to rig the scenes they wanted to show.

Quote: "many people have had their CD-Keys banned for simply MENTIONING this on Blizzard forums"

read the EULA to actually use the forums and you'll know why

Quote: "and sites which put up screenshots of the alpha are being taken down by the dozen."

because real or not it reflects badly upon the company that the systems could be hacked and someone gain something like this.
as any lil peon online suchas yourself no doubts believes it's true, and as such makes the company look like they were unprepared for the attack.

Blizzard aren't like Vivendi's other companies trying to get sympathy for things being leaked; or trying to get a public opinion about it. What they're trying to do is cap the rumours before they start to get too out of hand.

Though i'll bet big money where these rumours have come from, or even some of the unreleased footage that has been shown that was ment for E3.

... as for insider ... whatever, i don't have to explain why i know what i do to any of you. But the fact that i'm still happily enjoying my vacation in the UK is proof enough that this is fake.

First things first,

Everyone knows that its not going to be a Private Beta, but a pubic beta, it was said on the forums(thats the only real way you can test a MMORPG)

Well lets see, as of December 22 they are still testing the alpha, and if the beta was leaked a week before christmas, this would check out...

'Well lets see, as of December 22 they are still testing the alpha, and if the beta was leaked a week before christmas, this would check out...'

It's the alpha if you'd actually read the pages. The same alpha they're testing right now.

'Stop lying, and if you want anyone to think your a credible source, tell us how you get this...'

For one thing he never said he got it. He's a news source. The picture he showed wasn't taken by him, it was one of the four released before people could get the client running.

And as to '(or do you get it illegally???)'...

By the way-- Raven, if it's fake, howcome the races (and almost every race/sex/class combination is shown) shown in the videos math those in official WoW screenshots exactly? Nobody could model fakes matching that well, especially with animations and changable skins etc...

Shesh,I give you people the news of the year prob the best game in ages, and you don't believe it???
No comments,if you dont beeliev it,then what do you want me to do?Send you the alpha on CD,with nice lettering on the cover saying 'THIS IS IT YOU BLIND MAN',perhaps?
Raven and all other ppl who dont believ, just download it and see for yourself, how can you *know* without even testing it?If you really are so doubtfull by nature, then you would want to test it.The fact that you haven't shows you're doing this for another reason,no idea what it is...but cut it out.

erm... well a couple of phonecalls later and i'm still confused lol

first thing to say is, IF this is real; which couldn't be confirmed as none of the sites that have been checked and shutdown actually had what they claimed to, then the version out there is the alpha build 1.00.551.03202003 (final number is the date of compile)

secondly it can be comfirmed someone broke onto the website server, as alot of 'soon to be released' screenshots and media were on there some of which even there ready and waiting for E3... again not sure how much was taken.

-- -- --

this all said, remember that WoW isn't really new graphics... really it's more of an MMORPG version of Warcraft3, same formats and same artwork used majorly. The new skins are hardly new, they're just unused in previous games or used so little you wouldn't notice.

i dunno, probably should checkout the rumours; but been told there is nothing to worry about.
however did talk to Richard about something which he wasn't saying either way; but could tell there is an air of distrust at the moment towards Vivendi...
^_^ gonna be fun when i get back home eh hahaa

There's no solid URL to the 1.8gb archive, obviously. The three ways I know of acquiring it are mIRC, Bittorrent, and E-whatever (the latter I refuse to use). The videos are very easy to come by and are on the web. Clue: 'vze' site.

And if you value your stay on this forum I'd suggest you start caring about what the administrator's rules are .

I don't believe you've talked to a single person who works at Blizzard, but I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard only recently learned the alpha was indeed the real thing, and not some fake. It's not like you can toddle into certain IRC spots from a Blizzard IP

as for it being 1.8gb, erm... yeah oki well my money is firmly on fake.

Your loss . Once again, read any and every major Warcraft community website, they all confirm it is real. One-- worldofwarcraft.net or somesuch-- said they had Blizzard's confirmation on the matter.

you might want to edit your post that has the url's now before you get into trouble; should've emailed them.

took a while to check them out, connections slower than i thought.
but it's given my a laugh can see why there was no worry now

yeah, an official build - hehee but erm, well you'll see in a month or so. As for the sites... Blizzard has confirmed nothing, infact i'll ask for the email to be forwarded to my account so i can show what they actually replied to the multitude of sites.
I was told by Grant that his exact words were "It is believed POSSIBLE that someone may have hacked into Blizzard.com late November"

don't give a damn if it's convincing or whatever; i just know i don't have to worry about the last 6months of work, which is all that matters to me.

and quite frankly if you guys believe this WoW alpha is real then your bigger idiots than i thought.

i said it's an official build, not a real build
and infact only 2 of the links given even have the official build, the others are edited WC3... which 2 i'll leave you guessing.
and the Server up isn't Serving the official build either.

you want this put bluntly for you (cause i know how dense ya'll can be)

THIS IS A HOAX ... an amusing one at that, or rather not so much a hoax as in a publicity stunt but; ack why bother you'll just ask more questions and then claim i'm lieing even more

so ya'll just leave you to find out on your own.

yeah technically they are, and it's begining to be a trend with Vivendi games getting 'leaked' ... HL2, Halo and now WoW
might understand why it's a fake, but official.

Blizzard haven't been happy with Vivendi from day one; and not talking on a private level. They don't do business like Seirra did apparently, and they do feel more like Eidos to me than other more pleasent publishers like EA or SCi.
There was a worry about a year ago aparently that something like what happened to Core recently would happen at Blizzard, so most of the staff left... positions which have YET still to be filled back up. This puts alot of strain on other members, particularly the junior members who have to pull the most slack.

Personally I hope that World of Warcraft and Starcraft Ghost are the last titles on Vivendi's books; as i know there are two titles in development which were not verified.
One at Blizzard South (LA) and one in Blizzard North (SF)

i hope that they find a new publisher one which is nice to work for... hehee should join the EA Monopoly ^_^

Raven's now officialy full of... well, you know

Official from Blizzard:

As many of you know, we are currently conducting an internal Alpha test for World of Warcraft. Our goal for this Alpha test is to provide the best possible experience for players when the Beta launches in early 2004.

In order to accelerate the testing process, we recently allowed a small group of external testers to play the game. During this process, a collection of files was leaked to the Internet. While these files contain alpha content from the game, they are not fully playable and therefore do not convey the experience that World of Warcraft will provide when it is released.

We are currently investigating this matter and will take serious action against those involved.

As always, we appreciate the interest and enthusiasm that players around the world have for World of Warcraft, and we look forward to delivering a massively multiplayer game unlike any you have ever experienced. Until then, we ask that you refrain from sharing any content that doesn't come directly from Blizzard Entertainment.

Lastly, we would like to announce that sign-ups for the World of Warcraft Beta test will begin at the end of this month. Stay tuned to www.blizzard.com for further details.

In other words it's real, but as we all know you can't log in, and they are pissed about it. The whole nature of the way they're dealing with it very much belies an 'official' leak.

Note that I don't support the leaking of this... just watching the news as it happens. If I could have my way the software never would have leaked out.

Unfortunatly for Blizzard, Warforge has recently hacked the game and gotten it running completely standalone without servers.

yes we know Mouse it was posted above unless you missed it; please highlight the EXACT text though that happens to say that they have actually been hacked? and that a version of WoW is out there? and that the version out there is a working alpha?

secondly mouse, what is it with you and 3rd party sites...
HalfLife2.net i was willing to consider as they ACTUALLY have staff from Valve that visit and are members.

this one i can tell you for a fact DOES NOT. Infact they only talk to the PR Manager at Blizzard North, Racheal Evans; who is a lovely girl ... but Blizzard North are situations a good 400miles north of Blizzard South and work on the Diablo series of games.
Although the main staff there will be told something, general rule of the thumb is anyone outside of the actual development team in matters like this aren't told squat.

you want to believe that 3rd Party sites always have the inside scoop over the OFFICIAL company site; then do so. but really who is the bigger fool for believing that?

have fun Mouse, sometime i think you just live in a world where the internet seems to be you only source of information.

sorry but companies only release the information they WANT you to see ... and the internet allows them to do this very well and very easily. it's called spinning, and most PR people are great spin doctors. on a medium where it is easy to fake anything, and something from just an official email means all of the difference well i'm sure you understand all about this; and if you don't maybe you'll find it online hahaa

..and you want us to believe that some forum dude named Raven who has NEVER came through on one of his rediculous statements is the one with the "Inside Scoop"?

...you sure do have that mastered, don't you?

I find it kind of ironic that a guy that tells story after story, sometimes for further "ego-tripping" and sometimes to cover for his past stories has a dancing pussy for his avatar.

Oh-oh!
Now I'm wondering if you are one of those furry/plushy freaks
LOL

What does my avatar remind me of?
The dog that I used to have (Siberian Huskey). I got rid of him after having my 2 kids. He was a good dog, but I couldn't give him the attention that he needed because of the kids and the wife. We gave him to a couple that had another Huskey.

By god I hope he's not a yiffer. I'd have to leave the forum for good .

Raven-> For the reasons already listed, you are being a complete jackass. Perhaps you should just stop posting in this thread, admit you've lost in your own way, and move on? Only those with a negetive IQ would believe all this crap you're saying.

I'm afraid you've rather lost the plot here, too. You're obviously (and blatantly) insinuating that this is an intentional leak to raise support and intrest in the game. And obviously, neither of these is true.

First of all, you would have lost your job for saying that on a public forum before the above press release was put up.

Second of all, for more reasons than I can list, you're the last person who Blizzard representivives would give your secret information. Along with being completely untrustworthy, well, you don't even have their phone number .

Third of all, Blizzard is not treating this like an official leak. The leaks of Doom were treated as official in that id turned a blind eye (not making any certain statements here but it makes it a possibility). Where Blizzard rips down screenshots and threatens suits, Microsoft whistles and walks by with the Longhorn alpha and betas, a great example of obviously intentional leaks.

To put it in layman's terms, it's blatantly obvious that everything you've posted here is naught but selfish ego boosting by trying to convince other people you're an 'insider', smarter than them, work at Blizzard and know something about the leaked alpha-- none of which are true, I'm afraid.

They have a product support timeline which they follow. They'll abandon ME next, then 2000 (various editions in chronological order)... it'll be a while before they abandon XP though.

98 was already abandoned, it's 98se they're going to stop support for. Mine is already fully updated anyways.
