i heard on this board that even though the rules say 20 lines*25 commands per line this is not the case. how many commands can you have?

As the rules state it is 20 lines * 25 commands per line which is a total of 500 commands. What is the confusion in that!

Some time ago the rules were more stringent in that it was 20 lines * 5 commands per line. Some people try and stick to this old rule as it is more of a challenge. You can write a whole game in 500 commands.
