it's the shading.

run this code in both DB1 and DBP:

sync on : sync rate 0

make object sphere 1,10
color object 1,rgb(0,0,255)

repeat
sync
until spacekey()

delete object 1

you'll notice in DB1, the bottom of the sphere is simply darker blue, as it should be.

however in DBP, the bottom of the sphere is an ugly grey color, which it SHOULDN'T be.

why is this and how can i make it go away?

? On my computer it looks better in DBPro, plus you have all of the Light commands to manipulate how it appears.

It was reported somewhere that DBpro will have a renderer update in Patch#4.

The evil plan is now even closer!

I found the shader to be rather uniform too on my PC,and I know that the HW isn't the problem...

well yes the shading is much clearer in DBP but for 2 reasons: 1 it's running probably in 32 bit (of your desktop is) color as opposed to DB1's default of 16, and for 2, the DBP sphere primitive is more polys than the DB1.

the shading with lights also looks really strange; you can see the polygons lighting up and changing colors as an object rotates. just run the room demo and walk from room to room; you can see the "boundaries" between red and green light, for example.

and also i tried manipulating it with lights. changing the ambient light or ambient color makes it more or less worse. about the only solution is to have a second light coming from the opposite direction as the first, and turn off ambi, but that's... it doesn't work out in a game really... and it's annoying having 2 lights and besides it doesn't change the fact that it shades everything to grey, and not simply darker! it's like you're looking at the bottom of the object through fog!
