Thanks for the response but I was looking for something a bit more based around sprite/tile development than a general art package.

I tried all the usual ones (PSP, Photoshop) etc, but I'm after something a bit more specific.

Just for giggles, you could download DoGA CGA, build multi-jointed models, animation them in the motion editor, and save them as individual frames of animation. It would be a cheap path for making sprite animations if you can't draw your way out of a paper bag.

In MS Paint zoom in

then click CTRL-G

then you have a tile editor.

also, make an app that takes pictures of your models and saves them as an array... se the DBC Iced demo for an example of this.

Everyone always shouts "Adobe Photoshop!" when asked what gfx program they should use. Honestly, I think Micrografx Picture Publisher is a fantastic graphics editor/art package. I have both adobe and Picture Publisher 7 and 8, and Picture Publisher is my favorite. Give it a shot.
