hi all,
i have just downloaded this freeware program off [href]www.tucows.com[/href] its called spybot and what ut does is remove all spyware off of your computer. I was amazed to find that i had 30 spyware files on my system and within seconds it had removed them so i though i would tell you all so that you don't have people spying on you. here is the address to download it http://tucows.easynet.net/files/spybotsd12.exe if you do not want to download it straight from here because you don't trust it then go to [href]www.tucows.com[/href] and search for spybot and download the freeware one that is right at the bottom of the page.
I hope this helps you as much as it did for me.

I have SPY SWEEPER. It remove annoying cookies, trojan horses, adwares and spywares. And you can block the annoying cookies while you are in the internet.

SpyBot S & D is great. I use along side of Adaware 6. I wouldn't download it from tucows website though (regardless of my partiality to cows - no pun intended) - they produce hacking software like Back Orifice (sp)

On my spybot it picked up two spyware files coming from Adaware.
And i would trust tucows because PC advisor recommended it from there.

Yeah, I'd steer well clear of tucows (+) and rustle up a beefier download by moooooving over to author's website. Make no misteak, you really do need this program.

Thats because they quarentine the spyware files and the other progrmas think it is actual spyware....I have it so each of their directorires are excluded

BTW pcmag said that spy sweeper was the best but it costs money

yes, SpyBot S&D mentions this issue in its help files about seeing adaware as a possible threat but there are ways around it.

yeh that sounds right, because i remember on my dad's pc were he had two firewalls running they was detecting each other as intruders(hackers) and my dad was getting constant warnings from each.

A few people might remember that I had a problem with spyware a few weeks ago. Well I was surprised when spybot failed to fix it. Only a new update released at the beginning of february (i think) found the little buggers. A load of new spywares were added to the database and then it found a bunch of them called 'coolWWWsearch'. Ive not had any trouble since, so Id recommend downloading it and updating it. Only the new update wouldnt download from the normal server so had to get it from safernetworking#1.

Currently thinking of a new company name

its annoying when they find away to avoid been detected

I started to use it because it was drastically slowing down my internet and soon as i removed all the spyware files it runs as it should do.

I don't use IE or Outlook variants, and I don't download EXEs from KaZaa (or anyone else untrustworthy), and I have a virus scanner--- no need for spyware removal utilities. Good choice, though.

I used to use Netscape explorer and when i first got it there was no pop ups but after a month or so someone had designed some to get around it and then i was getting netscape explorer pop ups which i found annoying.

Also i bought the windows Xp handbook 4 and got the disk with it and tried the Zilla pop up killer that was on the disk and i do not reccomend this as it lets a lot of pop ups through.

I just ran Spybot: Search & Destroy and found a couple hundred spyware thingies... and I don't have Kazaa, Morpheous, and all that cr@p. I don't even download much or go onto many web sites. But at least that is all over now...

Kazaa gives you about 300, and Morpheus won't leave you alone. i've downloaded music from both and got viruses

I'll give Morpheus dues for having the biggest balls of the rat bastard pack. One of my kids installed it and it took me all night to clean up after it. I especially got a kick out it trying to sell me blocking software after it installed the pop-ups and other crap on the computer to begin with. Right then and there I would have gladly capped the developers that wrote it.

i always used to get gator pop ups on my old computer and the spyware seemed the spread as i was getting more pop ups by the day.

Also does anyone else get annoyed by those ebay pop-ups?

Yeah. I got Gator and ebay pop-ups. There so annoying. But for some reason now... I dont get any pop-ups at all. None. And I dont have any of that pop-up blocking software.

Me. But, i got ZoneAlarm, so it asks me if i want Gator to access the internet. Yes or no...it was a tough decision....but i but i picked no. The reason Gator spreads is it puts more Gator popups on your computer. Gator creates a folder in your computer so just do a search for it and delete it

yeh.

On the topic of spyware and virus's i jsut d/l the norton systemworks 2004 15 day trial off this site only to find it had planted 15 virus's on my system.

I was able to remove 2 via norton and delete 11 by tracking down it file name. The other ones were .dll files that would not delete no matter what i did so i have had to do a system restore and everything is fine now.

I think that Norton software is dodgy. I had a similar problem with it. They make you buy it by infecting your computer with their own dodgy viruses.

yeh you can never be to sure with these programs unlesss you make your own. And also on, i did a system resotre to set it back a day and when i went back onto norton 2003 it had erased the anto-virus part so i had to re-install it.

And norton didn't give me the virus's it was the download host.

yes spybot and adaware are cool but wait till u get a thing called a "transponder" and then you will know pain. Use another program called "HijackThis" to identify it and remove it.

could of been a virus or huge amounts of spyware.

Also if you are using imesh it only gives you a virus after u uninstall it.

sounds more like a transponder to me as it was similar to what i had when i installed grokster. NEVER install grokster.

it installs up to 50 resident trojans / spyware components and a transponder. do a google search or check out a spyware removal forum and you will see its results.

Speak of the devil. Anytime I access a webpage, I notice my Mozilla client accessing gator! SOB! Time to download this here spybot And here I thought I had it all figured out hehehe. I'll let you know how many spyware programs it found.

EDIT:

Oddly enough, it picked out 5 registry entries but none of them were called 'Gator'. After I zapped them, however, my browser doesn't go to the blasted Gator site anymore. Hmmmm...

that grokster sounds like a bitch i will warn my freind immediately.
The virus's my dad got off imesh slowed his intenret down so it was really slow and i mean slow.

also spybot finds spyware in cookies that are simple .txt files with the sites address on why is this?

Probably to let you know that you've visited sites that have deposited cookies associated with spyware. Even if cookies are harmless, who knows what else was picked up from that site?

I used to have Spybot, now I have Ad-Aware Pro 6.0. I ran Spybot, then ran Ad-Aware, and it found 49 things that spybot didn't.

Gator also runs under an alias or three, GAIN (Gator Information Network?), some Precision Time gizmo, a weather update service, and a few more. For these 'services', it takes drive space, CPU resources, steal privacy data, and monitors your surfing habits, IIRC.

yeh zircher i have had all three of them on my pc bit i did not realise they were all GAIN related.

Via spyware can people locate your pc and then virus you through that.

Some spyware programs have backdoors that could allow that and worse. But, crippling your machine is not what they want. They want to profit from the invasion by sending you targeted advertisments, selling your personal data to spam vendors, or subverting your machine to send spam for them.

They are thieves plain and simple and should be treated as such in a court of law.

hey i just found this worm that can be caught form any downloading program its called 'W32.HLLW.Bereb' and it can come from anyware.

it lodges itself into C:\windows under file names of Taskmgr.com and
Svckernell.com.

and also for more file names and what it does go to
