Its about bsp... again

I know a lot of people have been asking questions about bsp and i've looked throught the forums but still havent solved me problem.

I tried the demo in the tutorials and the bsp map worked perfectly.
I downloaded a quake 2 map and loaded it in the bsp tutorial and it worked perfectly.
So i tried to make my own map, something similar to the dbpro one, a simple room with no roof, but when i load it in the tutorial code i see nothing!!

Why is this, does anyone know what im doing wrong??

Btw i used valve and zoners tools.

Thanks alot Freek

When you say a simple room with no roof I think your bsp has to be fully closed. That means having a sky box or a fully closed room with a roof. Also check if the camera is positioned inside the bsp. Also what about about lighting? I'm not sure how bsp's show up, maybe it's really dark and you need a light in the room? Just general thoughts haven't used bsps much yet.

Well the lighting and all should be done already because it works in the tutorial.

Should be the same for positioning i think

I tried putting a roof across the room but still no luck, exactly the same result.

Is there any one who has a working bsp level who can explain how they did it??

I've managed to get a bsp working 'alright' though not perfect. I used QUARK and Zoner's tools etc.
I made the bsp into a half-life one.
I used the source code that can be found in:
C:\Program Files\Dark Basic Software\Dark Basic Professional\Help\tutorials

And use the "0 making a simple fps game.dbpro" file

I changed the source code to accept my bsp:
'load bsp "world\demo2.pk3","demo2.bsp'

I deleted the parts where in wants to load things related to the sky. As this slows it down. I have my own wad file with the bsp to use the textures from Half-Life.
I also had to change the EnemyPosData:
Because the enemies were going throug walls etc.
One last thing I changed was the speed of how the player moved. As I had problems going up the stairs to the second floor. All of map is enclosed by walls and floors. Didn't use a sky etc. I also used quite few lights using Quark Editor, so to make things light up etc.
On my computer using my own map I get around 30-60 frames per second. (I have a rubbish PC, 550 MHz AMD K6-2, 192 MB RAM, 15 GB hard-drive, Windows 98)

Now the problems, as mentioned before I had problems going up the stairs.
Problems with texture resizing.
Problems od sometimes falling through world(Usually going up the stairs etc)

I'll post some screenshots in the next post...

Those shots looks pretty good.
If i could get something of that standard i'd be very happy

I'm gonna get quark and have a go. You mentioned the textures from halflife and in a wad file, what do i have to do with them??

Thanks

Hello there, pleased to here you like my screenshots.

The textures I used was from Half-Life. Though what I did to get the textures into a seperate wad file was this:

I used a program called Wally where you can get from
http://www.telefragged.com/wally/

Before using Wally, I took a note of textures I used in my map. Write down the exact name to save time.

Start up Wally, then goto File then Open. Browse your hard-drive for the wad file you used. e.g Half-Life's wad file.
Open this file up, and up comes all the textures.
To find your files easily do the following:

Click on filter, then the box beside it type in the exact name of the texture file ie !watersilo2
Then what you do is export file into a directory.
Then do a batch conversion
The rest should be easy to follow.

I hope that helps a bit.

Bsp support is Very dodgy when I try it too. Rarely does it work properly. I think the DBteam have their work cut out to make it usable...
