Turn based battles are easy if you set a few variables and if then statements.

Would leave a tutorial BUT you never thanked for or commented about the last one I did for you! So how do I know whether thats the kind of thing you want.

Tsk. Ingrates lol

lol don't sweat it I wasn't really mad, I just wondered whether it had helped This would be a much more complex tutorial, which is fine I don't mind doing it... but I need to know a few things to make sure its gonna be relevant.

1. There are lots of variations to turn based combat - do I presume you are after a Final Fantasy Style layout?

2. How many characters are fighting on your side? Just you, or a combination?

3. Are your graphics 3D (*.x files from Milkshape/3dsmax etc.) Semi-3D with plains textured with pics you've scanned or drawn in an arts package, or 100% 2D sprite based?

4. Do you have any text, code or graphics already prepared so I can get a feel for your game or ideas? If so upload them to some free webspace and post a link.

All of this will help me write a relevant tutorial 4u

Thanks

Im actually using 3D studio max for my game characters.
I need a battle system that has a final fantasy style layout and can hold 1-3 characters.
Im using matt-ed for the matrix......thats all i can say plz say this helps.....
my website will be up soon just finishing it off
thanks for your time.

Ok thats fine. (3dsmax - nice! Hope its not pirated? as so many copies are. Ppl on the boards here go mental if you mention piracy! lol)

I admit I don't use Mat-Edit, but that doesn't matter as in Final Fantasy Style games Battles aren't usually graphically taking place on the actual map

I am still thinking about the best way to go about a tutorial for you, give me a few days and I should have something decent for you (Sorry I'm real busy @ the mo @( will do it soon tho )

yah... school. right. My school has a cheap version: 3D Studio VIZ. Same company, same program really, just missing many features. Although they have LW. Funny that.

Anyway, it sounds to me like you have to stop and put your RPG aside. If you don't you will either give up or end up with something you didn't want. If your new to this, take a minute to actually learn what you are doing, because although we could hold your hand the entire way, the end results will be a patchwork piece of crap. So my advice is to stop, maybe do some more design work on your RPG while you actually learn how to program in DB. I have waited over two years, and I am just now starting on an RPG.

Good luck, whatever you choose tto do.

Thanks vivi I'll do my best for ya.

Raps I agree with you that just cutting and pasting together a game in DB without learning the basics first won't get good results, but I'm gonna spend a while on the tutorial and hopefully make it a learning experience, covering the basics

ok, feel free to do whatever, but I must warn you, countless users have gone down this path and never come back. I don't want to discourage you, but you might end up discouraged yourself.

if you have it all down on paper and not just a few lines of information then your ready to tackle the coding problems.

having pre tested all of the commands and perhaps made mini snippets on particular subjects about your game for adaption or insertion.

Can you do a text rpg?
Even in it's simplest form; if you have this down then you it will be alot easier to add graphics.

Just trying to help
