Could someone fill me in about DLLs please? I.E. what can they do that you can't normally do in DBP?

Also, is there a tutorial to teach you how to make a simple one for DBP?

DLL's can do anything you want really - whilst most graphical things could be done in DBPro, in a DLL they might be quicker (and easier to write). In addition most Windows routines would have to be access from a DLL as they're not included in DBPro.

There isn't as tutorial in DBPro that shows you how to create a DLL - look on the internet for that.

DLL's allow you to add functionality to DarkBasic Pro. You can use some DLL's from 3rd party companys like Auran for far supperior 3D engines than DB's inherent engine. Fantastic particle effects and much much more. Get rid of the inherent winsock for one that will allow you up to 5000 connections. All kinds of wonderful things. Dynamic Link Library's are your friend.
